Well you would think they would get used to your accent but I guess not. I visited Alabama and they had a southern accent but it really was not something to make a big deal about. Most New Yorkers have an accent too so you could make fun of him back lol. I am from Illinois and i would like to think that we midwesterners do not have an accent.

I've also noticed that accents are very noticeable. If you move from the south to the north, the northern people will immediately ask you where you are from, due to your accent. If you move from north to south, they won't even speak to you because you don't have the local accent.

I've never had anyone make fun of me due to my accent (I have a Virginia accent), but I've had a few people ask me where I'm from. One lady even told me to never loose my southern accent (and I didn't even know I had one)!

I am one of those people who can pick up an accent within a few minutes of listening to people. I tell folks that I'm a Myna bird, because I can do that. If I hear a southern accent on the phone, within a couple words I sound like the person I'm talking to!

I am also from Virginia (central VA) and people always make fun of the way I talk. They are just jealous that they don't have such a cute southern drawl.
I used to live in TX and when I talk to friends whom still live there they make me really mad when they try to say I have a northern accent, I am very proud that I am from the south, I think that we have more class. Just my opinion though

Because they wish they too could speak like us...the southern way of speaking draws to mind lazy, summer days on a soft flowing river--not brisk wind on an ice cap...There is nothing sexier than hearing a Southern man call you "Mam"..and the children use "please" and "thank-you"..stand
proud and speak softly..I love being a Southern woman, accent and all!

Actually Virginians have the most attractive southern accents. It doesn't sound as twangy as say, an accent from Tennessee or Alabama.

I love southern accents. Especially when it's coming out a girls mouth. It's so charming, sweet and innocent. I love it. (Wow that made me sound creepy.) I'm really not. I'm from the south anyway.
