Those are all registered domains. Dot Net refers to the ISP (Internet Service Provider) network, Dot com is pretty general and means communications via eMail contact and Dot Org such as SPCA.org refers to organizations, charities, political action groups ad infinitum.

.net is network, usually belonging to an isp, .com is commercial, .org is an organization, usually non profit. .gov is government, .st is state, etc.
