At the company i work at, we have been asking customers for their zip codes. Most people comply, but a precious few have declined. Now, we were told that in a few weeks, we will have to ask customers for their phone #. Another employee and i expressed some concerns about having to ask at all because it just seems too intrusive. I figure this would be a good question, as people shop everyday, and this practice isn't all that uncommon. I'm sooo looking forward to some answers here! Thanks in advance people!

A few stores where I shop do ask for phone numbers. It doesn't bother me because I choose not to share my phone number. I simply state that it's unlisted and the sales clerks have always seemed fine with that. I don't mind sharing my zip code because it's not personal.

I don't think so. If so, it will only hlep the company because it's there way of sending news there way or by being able to contact the person if a transaction is process wrongg. And you usually figure that out when your drawer is short or over or whatever. So you know. Customers are wayy too impatient these dayss. But there are definately benefits from it...What company do you work at?!

Toys r Us asks for phone numbers and I always give my mom's. I do find it annoying and intrusive.

I get asked that a lot and I will not give it out. I just tell them "no" and it is never an issue.
