My wife and I are both disabled due to chronic pain 24/7 and even with that, I'd rather live with the pain than to live in a closet. I still enjoy the beauty of the world around me and enjoy the outdoors. I would be clostrophobic and the lack of connection to people would probably kill me.

It's always best to be open and clear about who you are. I don't know your age, but if you're real young, still depending on parents for support, hold off for awhile. You need to grow up, get a job, etc. Your life may be miserable if you 'come out' now.

If you are independent, working, have your own place, etc. you need to be real honest about who you are. If you are gay, there are many gay communities....Provincetown, Mass., for one, is great. Atlanta is loaded with gay communities. You will be happier when you have friends who accept you for exactly who you are! Some family friends might come around, in time, but be prepared to get the cold shoulder for awhile.

Being in the closet means a lifetime of lying and tongues wagging all the time. It is not a good way to spend your life.

Don't be ashamed of who you are. We are all different and that's what makes this world so interesting!! Good luck to you.

Pain. In the closet is only darkness and death.

Pain! You can't fully experience joy and really appreciate it without first experiencing pain. ~ wow I should listen to my own advice sometime, till then, I'll go back to the closet. :)

I've lived with chronic pain for the last 15 years, and I'd have to choose this over living in a closet.
No sunshine, no rain, no enjoying children at play, no sitting around the table with my family, no Christmas tree?

Uh...no thanks.
