I really feel that the ultimate Justice League members were in the 90's when they had Guy Gardener, Blue Beatle, Buster Gold, Fire, Ice, Bloodwynd, and many other... the whole Superman, Batman, Wonderwoman, Aquaman, etc thing leaves me cold and bored... to many heavy hitters... does anyone agree? It was never funnier and more kick-*** than those middle days... classic stuff!

Am I alone?

Be my guest. (as one dork to another!) I may be a slightly older dork, though. I cut my teeth on the original version of the JLA before JLEurope, JLInternational, JLAntarctica, etc. (Weren’t they funny, though?)

And there’s my rub…. Stodgy as the originals may have seemed (the ones that were the basis for Legends), I didn’t like the way Giffen, et. al., seemed to play the heroes, especially the newer one, strictly as clowns and morons. For example, I feel he contributed significantly to the G’norttization of the GLC, eventually resulting in people not taking the original characters seriously.

This resulted in Hal Jordan going mad, and taking down the Corps, and everything that has followed with him and them since. I always felt that was a poor way to treat a hero. (It was a poor way to treat an intellectual property that had been a breadwinner for your company for goodness’ sake!) And it only contributed to the general tearing down of morally good heroes and the present vast, unbalanced preponderance toward anti-heroes.

(Check out my recent question, who’s tired of all the ‘grim and gritty’ heroes.

I liked the Giffen era of the JLA. Too bad DC is killing all of them off. Max, Beetle, Dmitri, Ralph...I miss those days.
