A fishy odor is the most classic symptom of a common vaginal infection, Bacterial Vaginosis. You may have also noted an increase in discharge.

Washing and hygiene have NOTHING to do with it. You are not dirty.

Douching can actually CAUSE Bacterial Vaginosis. It strips away the natural flora of the vagina and alters the pH, which can cause BV to flourish.

It is not sexually transmitted, but having sex can predispose you to getting it. This is because the semen changes the pH and lets BV grow.

It is not the same as a yeast infection, completely different. Don't waste your money on medications or hygiene products which will only make it worse.
There is no over-the-counter medication for Bacterial Vaginosis. You have to see your health care provider for a prescription.

I'm just going by your symptoms here -- it certainly be something else -- but I am a midwife and I see a lot of this, and "fishy odor" is the number one symptom.
Time to make an appointment!

Make a doctor appointment because if you wash you shouldnt smell down their. Dont find another boyfriend because atleast he told you. If you have a funny smell to your discharge then you might have a yeast infection or a std. Call your doctor and tell them the problem. Dont douch detroys your natrual juices that fights certain infections.Good Luck

A fishy smell is a symptom of a problem. The only thing, THE ONLY THING that you can do about it is to see a doctor. Any family doctor can handle this quite nicely, thank you. Or go to a sexual health clinic. But do so immediately.

It's not unusual for men to detect a vaginal infection in their partner before the woman feels any symptoms.

Don't douche, ever. It can do nothing but cause problems. and lemon juice???? YIKES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Only YOU know how you're meant to smell "down there". Is it different to usual? Do you think you could have some type of infection? Don't wash yourself with anything other than soap and water. If you're really concerned, it could be your diet. They say wheat grass or pineapple juice help with the taste of semen - maybe they will work for that too. Have you thought that he's just making it up as an excuse for not having to go down on you? He is a guy after all!!

DON'T DOUCHE. you WILL get an infection, like yeast or bacterial vaginosis or something equally uncomfortable, and then your bf will be REALLY sorry because it will smell ten times worse "down below". Lemon juice is acid, it will strip off all of the nice moisture down there and leave you dry as sandpaper- ouch. Plus...infection. The only thing that is safe for you to do is to clean the OUTSIDE of your labia (what would touch your underwear) with a mild soap like Dove or Ivory. Otherwise, he just needs to get over himself. His junk probably doesn't smell like a rose garden either. Its not worth your health and fertility to do anything else.

A vagina has a distictive smell. Not particularly pleasant, but not repulsive either. Put your finger in there and then smell it. If it smells mildly fishy, it's pretty normal. If it has the stench of rotten fish, you've got a problem. Get a few of your girlfriends together and compare finger stink. I bet your's isn't any worse than theirs. Your bf is probably inexperienced and doesn't know what they're supposed to smell like.

A healthful vulva does not smell like fish. 2 issues will make you moist "down there"... the two are regularly occurring and healthful, they the two have a fragrance, and that they are *meant* to take place. one million) Your genitals save themselves clean and healthful by ability of sort of "rinsing" themselves with the fluids that they make (this could take place continuously initiating in early puberty, 24/7 for something of your existence, yet you will no longer continually be conscious it)... each and every so often there is incredibly assorted fluid and it could leak out a *lot*, so donning panty liners or perhaps easy pads would be a reliable element to help save your outfits clean. 2) while your physique is aroused sexually ("grew to become on" or "sexy", whether you're no longer doing or thinking something sexual) your genitals gets wetter and slipperier... each and every so often very, *very* moist... so as that a penis can slide in there very surely in case you have intercourse like it is telling you it needs (you do no longer would desire to, of direction). i'm a cook dinner, so the only issues i will incredibly examine the healthful fragrance of a vagina/vulva to are meals and such... and the closest i will think of of is a particularly easy mix of clean oysters and grated cakes (the savory mushrooms, no longer the candy chocolates) - musky and frequently greater on the sea-like ingredient, yet no longer "fishy" and on no account gruesome. It usually smells enhanced once you're sexually aroused or once you're sweaty after workout or have spent maximum of an afternoon in tight pants or clinging undies, yet no longer continually... and it tastes very like it smells, whether it is slightly salty and much less candy than the fragrance shows. (don't be afraid to flavor: it materials you information that your eyes and nostril - even your *physician* - can not supply you, besides to the actuality that it is probably your boyfriend(s) and/or husband(s) are gonna try this anyhow in the event that they have any brains... and it is specific no longer gonna harm *them*.) If this "discharge" is obvious or extremely milky (would desire to be tinted faintly yellow or brown), slippery to perchance slightly sticky or stretchy, and scents "earthy, animal and slightly like the sea", it is merely approximately incredibly healthful and robust. If it smells quite fishy or otherwise undesirable, tremendously if it itches or feels annoyed, then it is probable an infection and you will desire to work out a record.

After you go to the doctor and get checked out, be sure to keep that area dry and clean. If you work out and sweat a lot, it's not good to keep on those wet underwear, that's just a breeding ground for bacteria. Cotton crotch panties.

Get to the doctor. A fishy smell down there is usually an infection caused by a sexually transmitted parasite, Trichomonas. I have seen this many timeswith patients, I work in a MIcrobiology Lab!

You need to go to the gynocologist, it could be bacterial vaginosis or a yeast infection which need antibiotics.
