Earth supports life from single cell(ameoba) to complex inteligent life(humans(?)).Almost all species have offensive or defensive mechanisms to protect themselves if threatened. Is it then possible that the earth realises that it may be theatened by the life that it supports and decides it must take action by engaging its natural forces(volcanoes,earthquakes,typhoons/hurricanes etc.) to rid it of its enimies so that it can start again.

A living thing is classified by the fact that it can reproduce. Earth cannot reproduce, therefore it is not alive. And if it is not alive, it cannot realize that something is harming it.

The Earth is a life form.. The fires out in California are an instance of the big forest - Redwoods trying to return.. the seeds need to burn hot inorder for them to bud.. the earth is alive. Also waves.. Alpha, Beta and Gamma are present.. Alpha waves are in the crust of the earth.. and The Land knows who its owners are..(Ireland).. because the waves.. imprint the people who walk on the planet -- the waves come from space and are absorbed by the crust .. and we are apart of it all:)

because of the fact it incredibly is extremely no longer likely that a planet might actually help life. So why does earth help life? there is the anthropic theory, multiverse theory, enormous crunch. the two way if we can exist, the possibility that we are going to exist in a universe that helps life is a million. If the universe basically had a million planet that could desire to help life, the possibility that we could proceed to exist that planet is a million. there's no longer something unbelievable approximately it.

Earthquakes, tsunamis, etc are natural happenings caused by galactic shifts and pulls in the universe. There are plants that will/do protect themselves (venus fly trap, etc) Generally any living thing has a defense mechanism built in. Plants if threatened will react (see the secret life of plants)by chemical changes and sometimes electrochemical responses. Facinating world we live in.

I'd say that the planet itself is not a life form. But that a planet can be either alive or dead if it has some form of life on it or not.

That is basically what the Gaia hypothesis says. I rather like the Gaia hypothesis, but many people don't.
