Maybe this question will be pulled but I am not advocating civil disobedience, but surely this must be a means tested tax. Am I missing something. One thing I know for sure I am not nearly so well off (not rich or anything) as I was a few years ago.

If we all stood up together regarding this, they would be forced to re think the system.
However this will never happen as the mass are not prepared to risk prison and high penalties etc.

If every single person refused to pay council tax, the government would have a hard time dealing with it and it would become a major crisis, so much so that re thinking strict taxes would be the only solution. But like I said, people are scared to make a stand because they fear they will stand alone!. Until unity prevails we remain council tax slaves!!! lol

It's a good idea but we British are unlikely to do it. It would be nice if for the large amount of money I have to pay in South London the streets were swept and we sometimes saw a uniformed policeman/woman or even a plastic replica. We get letters from the Met Police asking us (the residents) what they would like us to do but it never happens.

Can we assume you also have something against paying income tax too. Would you like to keep all your money? And when we have no NHS, schools pensions or any services at all, and we live in a poverty ridden stinking hole, you can rejoice and say 'We won the war on taxes' Yeah you go for it girl, Sound thinking to the end.

It is a mess, it always has been. Ever since the scrapping of rates (which was also bad) the cobbled together fudge to give Thatcher her wishes yet still have some viable and moral elements to it.

I would like to see a local income tax.

I agree, but apathy gets in the way. May be if we got all the readers on Q and A to protest against council tax. It would be a start.
Seriously, you have a valid point, but we need leadership or else the country will descend into anarchy.

Yes, let's agree to pay council tax only at 1997 rates before Gordie screwed us all financially.

Ever wonder can you all stick together and clean up the mess you all created in your own backyards without the council too in planet of apes?

Because we would all then be implicated in a crime. Pay your taxes and cast your votes. That's how the game is played. Vote for a party which will reduce your council tax.

If we all stuck together we could overcome a lot of obstacles, but that takes a lot of organising and there are only our elected MPs who are to busy lining there own pockets to help us. So I guess we get poorer all the time.

I completely and utterly agree with you. I wish we could all stand together on this on and at least demand that it is means tested. I really resent paying this tax! How can they justify charging so much. Especially when our public services are so poor!
