There were two different storylines about S Red and S Blue. The original was in Superman #162 (1963), and you can actually read this great classic Imaginary Story (i.e., not part of the regular continuity) on the Superman Through the Ages site.
The later one (the on I think you probably mean) was after the Death of Superman and the Death of Clark Kent stories played out. That took place beginning in 1997 (beginning in Superman 122) and ended in April of 1998. If you go to the Superman home page you can read more about them.

I believe this would be the Reign of the Supermen arc, which came after the Death of Superman story.
