So let's say you've had some history with the one you love. It wasn't unrequited love, but you had a connection...almost of soulmate proportions.

One day, your soulmate announces that they only want to be friends with you going forward.

Can you go back to being just friends after you've been more than that? What are your experiences? I'm all ears.

Yeah, friend is friend. Look this music.

"Friendship"

Friendship is rare,
Do you know what I'm sayin' to you?
Friendship is rare.
My derriere,
When you find out much later
That they don't really care.
It's rare to me, can't you see?
It's rare to me, can't you see?

Oh **** there's a bear,
Could you hand me that shotgun buddy,
Also that chair?
We're fighting a bear
Now your life's in grave danger
And you don't even care.
It's rare to me, can't you see?
It's rare to me, can't you see?
It's rare to me,
Say a prayer for me,
'Cause it's rare to be
In Tenacious D.

Friends will be friends
They're running naked in the sand,
Friends holding hands
Will someday surely form a band,
Friends will be friends
They say that friends are friends
To the bitter end.
Long-as-there's-a-record-deal-we'll-always-be-friends!
Long-as-there's-a-record-deal-we'll-always-be-friends!

Friends will be friends
They're running naked in the sand,
Friends holding hands
Will someday surely form a band,
Friends will be friends
They say that friends are friends
To the bitter end.
Long-as-there's-a-record-deal-we'll-always-be-friends!
Long as there's a record deal we'll always be friends, yeah

Its always been said to me that once you become intimate with someone you can never go back to being "just friends". I on the other hand know this isn't true for me. I have a few of those and while we don't hang out like we used to if I ever needed them all I have to do is pick up the phone

I am not one to get very attached to people, so I definately could. I have never been put in the losing end of that situation. Being the one to say,"let's be friends", is the hard part as I have experienced numerous times.

Be there friend and control you emotions its better to stay in someones life and be a part of it then get shut out because you got rejected. Even better act like you dont give a **** and turn the tables. Try reading the laws or power or art of seduction

I don't know.

I'm thinking Scott is right, that it really can't be done if the level of love was so intense, then one really can't change the ?level of the relationship.

I think it depends on the individual and what they can tolerate.

Sorry to be cliche, but some of U2's lyrics are appropriate:

Through the storm we reach the shore
You give it all but I want more
And I’m waiting for you

With or without you
With or without you
I can’t live
With or without you

And you give yourself away...

My hands are tied
My body bruised (not literally of course), [s]he’s got me with
Nothing to win and
Nothing left to lose

And you give yourself away...

I really don't know. A soulmate is someone you're so connected to, that no matter what, you have to stay friends. So, I guess I just answered it. Yes, I would remain friends. ~~~~

Me personally If I have a other than friendship , relationship (intimacy) with some one that I really fell head over heels for than NO I cant just b there friends I get to attached and I wouldnt want to see that person with the one I love, it will drive me crazy just to see that "my love" , looks, touches kissess , hugs etc.. the other person like they did with me !

That's a rough one! I think that I would have to try. I simply could not cut someone that means that much to me out of my life completely. Even if it means I'd have to swallow my feelings; even if it means I'd have to be happy when that soulmate found someone new. I think that I would absolutley have to try.

Maybe with time, but not right away. A lot of people want to be "just friends" so that they can feel better, not so that you can. So that's bit selfish, and besides, sometimes a clean break is wat's needed for both to move ahead.
