i was trying to put all the 1500 songs in one folder into windows media player, so i selected 'add folder to library' and only about 1000 of the songs actually made it in. does anyone know why this would have happened?

I would like to know what you are trying to transfer these files from to your Windows Media Player. ipod > WMP ; itunes > WMP ? Maybe we could help if we knew that.

wmp may not be capable of playing the files. see if it will play the files that were not added by opening the folder and selecting a bunch and drag and drop them onto the playlist

you don't really need to move the files around at all...you could just set the media player to monitor a specific folder where your files are and then they'll just be there, but if the files did not transfer, then they may not be compatible.

HI. I would guess the 500 missing files did not meet the Windows DRM criteria.
