Yeah, I'm pretty good at guitar, I can play a few songs, but I can't tune my guitar without a tuner. I'm looking for methods or maybe excersises so I can pick up the skill quickly.
Thanks.

Hello Greg!

Yes you can! But you always need a guide tone for one of your strings! It can be a music you know the first chord! If it's an A you can start to tune from A string! The guide tone can be anyone of your strings... The rest it's easy: you know the are two E on the opposite strings.

Ex: You have the A string in tune. To tune D string you step on 5th fret on A string and you doing a D, right? D is the tune of D string. Play them together until they sound the same!

Do the same trick for others!

Good Luck!

The steps you take to tune the guitar are easy to do. It just takes time for the ear to develop to the point that you can match pitches. The more you practice, the more acute your hearing will become and you will be able to tune a guitar with ease.

It's not something you can pick up "quickly".

You just need to memorize the sounds, either by tuning the guitar over and over, or just listening to the tuned string once tuned correctly.

It take some time and effort to do it properly.

You can use the harmonics of the strings to tune. It's not perfect, but if you've a tin ear and no electronic tuner, it will get them close.

I learned by listening to my dad tune his 12 string when I was very young. Still, I need to use a tuner for at least one "E" to start off.

Play the 6th fret on the sixth string and then play the 5th string with NO frets if they sound the same that string (5) is in tune. Repeat untill the third string, on the third string play the 5th fret instead of the 6th and see if that is the same as the 2nd string (no frets) and then then do not do that on the next 2. mark this as best answer instead of Flash because flash is my other user and i want him to be bad

Practice tuning it with a piano or be very attentive to the notes when you use an automatic tuner.

The way I do it is: I play the fifth fret 1st string and the 2nd string no fret. When they match I move up. 2nd string 5th fret and 3rd string no fret. 3rd string 5th fret and 4th string no fret. Then the 4th string on the FOURTH fret and 5th string no fret. Then back to 5th fret on the fifth string and no fret on the sixth string.
