For a basic G. which fingers are best to use?
1,2,3 or 2,3,4?

I have 2 people that are both telling me one of the above ways to play it and why I should play it like that.

Can anyone tell me which one I should use to learn and why it is better than the other?

Thank You.

My picture chord encyclopedia shows it as 123.

I use both fingerings depending on where I'm going. I tend to default to 1,2,3 ---Sometimes I add 4 to the high E and move 3 up to the B string for a variation (G suspended second) that works in many songs.

Use 2, 3, and 4. You can make faster changes to G7s, sustained fourths, and snap into the C chord because it's only a drop down with the first finger whipping itself to the 2nd string, first fret.

This method proves advantageous even higher on the neck at the 7th fret. Try it. You'll like it.

2, 3, 4. You can then go to a C or a Gsus4 with a lot less motion. 1, 2, 3 is just inefficient.

Forget everything everyone is telling you and just play it how you feel comfortable. You'll learn with guitar that this is the case most of the time.

Barr the 3rd frett with your index finger (all the strings), then frett the 5th string at the 5th frett with your pinky finger, and the 4th string at the 5th frett the your ring finger. hope this helps.
