some thing out of plywood and such . would be nice if anyone out there has done one and can tell me how it went .

It depends what kind of boat you want to build but if you go to the website for Glen-L boats, they have quite a selection and their plans are very good. I built a stiletto a number of years ago and it went really smoothly. I think the plans cost about $20.00. eBay has always got listings for plans on CD for $6 as well but I have no experience with them. The Glen-L plans were great.

pick up a wood boat magazine and find an ad for the 6 hour canoe. its built from 1/4" plywood using what is called stitch and glue. the plans are cheap and include full sized cutting templates. build 2 of them for about 1 to 2 hundred bucks apiece depending the the wood and finish you use. they're a nice little boat. if you're looking for something else check the ads in the back pages. plans for small craft are pretty cheap these days.
