First, whats your computer or motherboard model number? There are 2 types of SATA, theres SATA 1.5, and SATA 3.0....3.0 has a data transfer rate 2 times faster than 1.5.....I need to know what your computer supports, if it only supports 1.5, then your stuck with 1.5, if it supports 3.0, you can buy a slower 1.5 or the faster 3.0...
You will also want at least a 7500rpm or faster drive.....a 10,000rpm drive has an extremely fast access time.....

Most of the new HDDs, SATA or otherwise are 80Gb or bigger and they are very cheap.

If your board supports SATA ll, get a SATA ll capable HDD. You could consider Seagate's 7200.9, NCQ, w/ 8Mb cache. It is fast and cheap.
