I hear a lot of people saying how liberal and left-wing Colorado is. My guess is that is a BIG misconception. The state is reliably Republican in presidential races, has Senator Wayne Allard who was ranked the most conservative senator in DC, has Focus on the Family as well as other major evangelical organizations, is one of the most pro-life states around, has been called 'the hate state' for its fervent opposition to gay rights, and has always seemed conservative to me when I've visited.

I know there's Boulder and Aspen that are really liberal--but they are hardly representative of the entire state. If you go to the suburbs or any other city in Colorado I think you'll find a pretty family-values oriented culture.

But let me get your opinion--is Colorado really all that left-wing? And why?

I didn't quite understand that Meghan. I've heard what your mom said--that Colorado is mainly liberal. What I'm saying is that is probably a bunch of baloney. Colorado is a lot closer to Kansas politically than California. Gay civil unions didn't pass because Colorado is still a very conservative state.

Thanks for your perspective.

My mom lives in CO north of Denver. She's gay and follows the elections and politics of that state pretty closely and she sees mainly leftist idealism in the way the state is run. If it was really as right wing as "people" are saying (even though I hadn't really heard that before) why didn't civil unions pass?

***************I meant to say rightwing! SORRY! :) Haha. They are conservative! I didn't check back on this one til today. I was agreeing with you
