It is a 29 gallon aquraium, contaning 5 guppies, 2 platties, 3 algea eaters. It is the rather small community tank in my fishroom. I don't really need to know why they are dieing, I was just wondering if 0 was good. It's been running only since December....

Your ammonia should be at 0.

Have you tested your tank for nitrates and PH?

Your fish could have been dieing from a number of things. I am assuming this is a new tank. Chances are your tank just completed what is called the start up cycle.

However without more info on age of the tank what kind of fish, did you use dechlor when you started the tank things like that.

Feel free to email me or repost and we can try to help.

If your Ammonia level is 0, that is a good thing. Depending on what type of fish you have, the temperature might be off, other chemicals might be off, or your fish could have a disease. I would suggest that you take a water sample to a local pet store and have them test it for you. Some charge a small amount, but I know if you take it to Petsmart, they will test it for free, and they will help you to interpret the test.

That is a very good thing. The reason that your fish are dying is either the nitrates or nitrites are too high or the ph is too low or too high. I would suggest getting an aquarium water test kit that has instructions and information like that.

also i would recommend spending the extra money and getting a master test kit.

Ammonia level of 0 is very good. If your nitrite level is also at 0, and your nitrate level is 40ppm or under, you are good with the water conditions. As to why your fish are dying, there could be a multitude of reasons besides water quality, so a little more information is needed.

What is your nitrite level? Your ammonia level needs to be zero, but some kits don't accurately test.

Do your fish have any marks, sores, bumps, fuzz or anything else on them? They may be ill.

Is the water temperature appropriately for the species?

Ammonia should be zero, so that's good. Death can also be caused by high nitrites and nitrates, as well. Also incorrect temperatures, too high or low of pH, and a number of other reasons.

Can you give more information about your tank size, also size, number, and types of fish? Also, how long the tank has been running, and any readings of the other things I mentioned above?

well, from past experiences,
if your ammonia level is 0, you should be dead. and you are not in the position to care for any type of animal.
