Freddie Mercury, although John Lennon was a better writer.

It is a well known fact that John Lennon did'nt like the sound of his own voice, so he probably would have said Freddie had the better voice. The only way this question can be answered is whether you are making the judgement based on range or popularity. As far as range Freddie has a greater range than John Lennon did, although i do like john lennon's voice.

Yikes! This is tough for me, but I think it's Freddie over John. Freddie had a certain versatility to his voice that John lacked, but John brought out so many important messages in his writing.

I think they are both great, but Jeff's right it's like comparing apples to oranges.....and they were both great songwriters too!
