There are hormones and lust.
And then there's true love. It definitely exists! :)

Far from it.
I didn't believe in love for the longest time. Then I lived a few hard years. My military career started to go sour, I went overseas and fought a war, my career went really sour, left and lost allot of my friends, spent almost two years struggling in the civilian world, found a job I was good at and lost it only to start over again trying to find a job outside of training to contribute to death and destruction and pain.
Then I met the girl I never thought I would. Falling love with her has been such a powerful experience. I love her more every day than I ever thought I could feel towards anyone or anything. Love is so much more than a chemical reaction. Definitely much more than a cliche.

I hear people (mostly women) throw the word love at every guy they date for more than 2 months, and then talk about how the feeling just "went away". I think, initially, love is a chemical/hormonal reaction, which wears away. Now if you actually try to make it work, then once the chemical reaction goes away, you have someone you can talk to, trust, care for, and so on, which isn't technically "love", but something more important.

I believe that we have a strong attraction towards certain people that you could call love. I know I have loved some people more than others. When I met my husband it wasn't love at first sight. As I got to know him I realized how well we fit together. I have dated other guys in the past who I felt I loved more but we just didn't click together. I think a lot of younger people fall in love with being in love and are not honest with themselves. But, yes, there is love.

You would think that after 38 years apart the love that once felt as a teen would be all gone to just fond memories , but the truth is no , the love never died because after 38 years of thinking of her and after divorcing I searched her out , found her still in love with me and after her divorce we are now happily married to each other . Yes Love is real ....

I'M A BELIEVER
I thought love was only true in fairy tales
Meant for someone else but not for me
Love was out to get me
That's the way it seemed
Disappointment haunted all my dreams
Then I saw her face
Now I'm a believer
Not a trace of doubt in my mind
I'm in love
I'm a believer
I couldn't leave her if I tried
I thought love was more or less a giving thing
Seems the more I gave, the less I got
What's the use in trying
All you get is pain
When I needed sunshine, I got rain
Then I saw her face
Now I'm a believer
Not a trace of doubt in my mind
I'm in love
I'm a believer
I couldn't leave her if I tried

The feeling is there, sure, but by touching parts of the Brain scientists can make you feel exactly the same way ... but love is not feeling, it's all about commitment and friendship. If it is only feeling, no wonder so many people fall out of love, they were never there to begin with.

This question I have pondered for a long time. Is love truly possible, or does Science prove it wrong. But then I look to the lord and my loved ones, then I realize, if love's a trick, than it sure is a good one!

It really depends upon whether we have free will or not. We have a subjective sense of free will, and the same goes for love, but this can never be proof of its existence.
I have faith that both free will and love really genuinely exist because I think without them life is essentially meaningless.

like you said, its chemical.
its in your brain's best interrest to reproduce, thus sending your DNA into the future, ensuring the continuation of your genetics and species.
it is also in its best interrest to ensure that the offspring of mating, survives, and by making the parent of the offspring fond of each other, they are morelikely to stick together, creating a more stable environment for the offspring to survive in.
so, at first, the brain makes you fall in love(lust), you are encouraged to mate (have sex). then, when that is achieved, it creates a bond (love), to ensure that there are two parties that will provide for the product of the mating(children)
that's why the human species is so successfull. we have a very good after sex record, most of our offspring survive to have kids of their own.
love is the romantisization of chemicals going bananas in our heads. its all hormones.

What kind of love? How does one define love? Is it possible that love is a pure Form or Idea? What would Plato or Socrates say?
