Babies don't need any water until they're one... and by that time there's no reason they can't drink tap water. Tap water is clean and just fine to drink. Nursery water is just one company's way of making money off of paranoid moms.

I never used nursery water and my baby turned out fine. I used tap water at home and regular old bottled water when we went to my mother-in-laws house because the tap water where she lives is bad. I dont think theres much difference between tap, bottled, and nursery water. Tap water usually has fluoride in it though which is good for teeth.

This is a timely question because I just discovered "Nursery Water" last week at Wal-Mart. It's a new fad. I gave my children tap water and never had any problems. My children are now 24 and 18.

Some child care books such as Dr. Spock used to advise boiling the water first, to make sure it safe, but in most cities tap water meets sanitary standards.

in short wellness, your babies immune gadget is low so there's a risk of introducing harmfull micro organism and different contaminants in case you dont boil the water. As your new child gets older their immune gadget won't have a concern, yet interior the early months it could. reckoning on the place you reside the common of water varies. even interior the united kingdom, the place in spite of the sales of bottled water, the water high quality is incredible yet there are nevertheless some bugs and different contaminents interior the water. In another international locations / factors the point of contaminants may be severely bigger. those contaminants would be presented the two by way of breaks interior the pipeline community, syphoning back of contaminated water, or unfavourable medical care on the reservoir & pumping stations), some are 'merely' a characteristic of the water itself. Boiling the water kills the bugs & Amoeba & flora that are interior the water. It wont get rid of all contaminents which includes potentailly nasty chemicals or taints or minerals which may be interior the water. Boiling would shrink the quantity of a few chemicals which includes Chlorine (used to sterilise the water), and it could shrink some mineral content cloth

My 6mo old son has always had tap water from the begining. I just let it warm up out of the tap and add it to the formula then I let him eat up.

I figure its good for him to expierence the world as is. Its good enough for the rest of us right?

Never EVER give babies nursery water it is way to high in fluoride:

"Because of the risk for dental fluorosis, and the lack of demonstrable benefit from ingesting fluoride before teeth erupt, the American Dental Association - and a growing number of dental researchers - recommend that children under 12 months of age should not consume fluoridated water while babies under 6 months of age should not receive any fluoride drops or pills."

" * feeding infants breast milk, widely acknowledged as the most complete form of nutrition for infants;
* for infants who get most of their nutrition from formula during the first 12 months, choosing ready-to-feed formula over formula mixed with fluoridated water to help ensure that infants do not exceed the optimal amount of fluoride intake;
* if liquid or powdered concentrate infant formulas is the primary source of nutrition, it can be mixed with water that is fluoride free or contains low levels of fluoride to decrease the risk of fluorosis, including water that is labeled purified, demineralized, deionized, distilled or reverse osmosis filtered water (many grocery stores sell these types of drinking water for less than $1 per gallon);
* the occasional use of water containing optimal levels of fluoride should not appreciably increase a child's risk for fluorosis."
