We've had a total of 4 silver tips and they all have died within a few days, can anyone tell me what is the deal with these fish. All the other fish in the tank have lived longer than the silver tips, they are a very exciting species of fish and they are gorgeous it's just that they don't live at least not in our tank.

Those are cool and fun to watch! Silver tipped sharks (Hexanematichthys seemanni) are actually brackish water fishes and need about a teaspoon per gallon of salt to do best. They also prefer hard, alkaline water.

They do get big, I had on get to over 16" in a 135 gallon tank. It finned me as I was taking it out to give to a pet shop. That hurt! They are somewhat poisonous on their spines and man, that hurt worse than any cory finning I have ever had, so be careful with them. The smaller, younger one's are actually more poisonous than larger fish.

Hi well as MM stated they are brackish, let me explain(cause thats not acucurate enough). 1st of all check you water peramiters(ammo, nitrItes). In nature these fish are born in basically full FW. As they grow they go towards the sea(ocean), and would be considered "brackish". At adulthood these fish are capable of handleing full SW conditions. Now thats in nature. Ive happened to see adults in full FW and juvies in full SW. It depends on how they were grown and acclimated from your source. Find out what salinity is in your suppliers water and try to match. These fish are tough to keep with other tropicals with the salt factor. If you like them, look into Synodontis species, as they are FW fish with the same body style and personalitys to boot. Syno Multipunctatus(Syno Granulosus if you can afford) I would recommend highly.
