Sure we are fatter But for over 100 years the average hight of Americans was 2 inches taller than it is now.

We are degrading as a people.

probably because Europeans aren't terminally car dependent like Americans, and on average-don't stuff their pieholes with processed food. In fact the Euros simply ban a lot of the manufactured food ingredients we *debate* about banning.

Wait wait wait. No one has a good source for this. The Native Americans were a vast number of people, in different tribes, in different environments. When Europeans first came here, they encountered agricultural people who got plenty of protein from the ocean, bays and rivers. By the time the Euros got far enough to encounter the Great Plains, they found people who had to walk for miles to find the migratory buffalo, and then figure out a way to make them run into a trap. (And no, the native people did not have horses before contact with Europeans.) Anyway, these guys probably got most of their nourishment from buffalo meat, which probably made them pretty tall. For a reference, check out info on height of Paleolithic man, who also lived on animals in migratory herds. Anyway, the point is that there is no such thing as The Native Americans. They were and are a diverse group of people. Changes in height and strength have more to do with diet and lifestyle than anything else.

Genetics may be doing a retro-reprise with our European forefathers whom gave us this height when we needed to be tall in the saddle. Most Euros don't saturate their bodies with fast food "lube" jobs, do embrace a sofa instead of "address the ball." Americans with a pc passion for compact cars and a dedication to compact themselves on a couch no longer need the extra two inches. Love yer "We are degrading as a people," although I would have probably used the lest explicit and informative "deteriorating."

Yes it's the greasy cheese pizzas with no veggies on.
Europeans don't hate their veggies... Americans do.
and fyi, Americans were Europeans and are European, how can everyone overlook that?
Europeans who got to america, wanted to bend the rules... the civil war plays an important role in that... culture changed, diets changed... everyone was allowed to do what they wanted to.. you can eat all the cheese pizza and diet coke... so one would naturally live an unhealthy lifestyle. the result, you see today.
apart form that, there has been alot of intermixing of "races", mixing of gene pools, tall marries short...... most europeans are still marrying among their own poeple and so they pass on their tall traits.
Yes, we might be degrading as a people...

Our problem began when we began to replace truth with building self esteem. A dangerous branch of post-modernism. If we all have high self esteem, why would we want to improve? It's a sad and devastating problem.

I venture to say...
Post-modernism and the concern for self esteem is a problem more rapid and dangerous than "global warming" and will cause more serious and immediate damage.

Look at us, we can't even win a war with a tiny insignificant nation. We have to start telling our children "no, that is wrong", not "well, that could be an answer". Make them understand they are wrong and put them in the place of wrong. Then they have reason to improve.

Am cause we give everyone such freedom on what they can eat and do with themselves that they get lazy over time lol but in New York they band some soda sizes and I think did something else and there was a huge fight about the government taking away some of our rights lol

FALSE. Americans are both taller and fatter then they were 100 years from.

50 years ago, a 150lb man was the norm.

Maybe you are but I'm already older than 90% of them and they are dying for the dumbest things. You may be fatter but I like my size.

I've been reading your posts and you have yet to get many right. Are you a child or something?

The answer is most likely the huge wave of immigration.

Most Mexicans who come here are short, and they are counted in the census. We also have a large influx of Asians, so that is also bringing down the average.
