I honestly dont think they know, or do they just really not care ? We are being compared to Nazi Germany. I'm sure the Germans had no idea how much they were despised or that what they were doing in Europe and Africa was immoral. I think a large part of the American population is brainwashed by a biased media that shapes the psyche of the majority. And the worst part is the people formulating these policies know that they are going to destroy the USA . There I said it , now come on all you haters

As a non-American, I can say that folks in my neck of the woods have nothing against American people. However, the American foreign policy, absolutley.

You're sending the world a mixed response. On the one hand you claim to support democracy and freedom worldwide.... yet some of your allies (ie: Saudi Arabia) are not democracies. This can be seen by the CIA funding the very people you are fighting today. Foreign policy has created the monsters that are now against you.

Another reason that the world generally doesn't trust America is becuase of the War in Iraq. If another country... say Iran... did what America did, they'd really know the meaning of a world military reaction. At the very least, sanctions would have been placed. However, becuase the United States has guns, it is somehow immuned from that.... is that really justice? The message you are sending is that things will be done your way, or no way at all. This runs completely counter to your so called "democratic beliefs". Who can really trust America after that? These so called "terrorists" you speak of were either funded by you in the beginning, or are pretty angry at you for destroying their villages and livlihoods. If someone invaded the United STates, you'd probably hate them to.

I think it runs both ways. You guys are scared of a bunch of poor Middle Easterners who are barely gettin by, and wouldn't have the capacity to ever harm America (without the funding necessary.. ie: CIA training the Taliban in the 1980's). You're scared of weapons of mass destruction... but don't you have the most of those?

I'm tired of America playing a father figure, like a world policeman. It's just like in Venezuela with Chavez... why is it ANY of America's business? Just becuase you guys don't like socialism, that doesn't make it evil.

It's like the United States is playing the role of World bully. You're so obsessed with other peoples problems, that you don't even look at you're own. Do you realize how far in debt your country is? How dependent it is off of foreign commerce or resources? Yet the average American really doesn't care because you have this notion that whatever you do must be right... becuase you're American. Jingoism is not cool, it just creates close mindedness. Nationalism does not enlighten you, and open mind does.

I just wish some of the people (not all, I'm not generalizing, so when I say "you", I don't mean directly you) would just stp being so extremely ignorant, and see America's foreign policy for what it really is... Imperialism.

Finally! people are opening their eyes to see the truth and the facts displayed here speak for themselves. After that great answer from gypsy_cat 345, i haven't got much to say except that people like Vanessa should look at the bigger picture and make her own assessments, rather than believing in what the media WANT people to believe. also, i don't think people should balme the Islamic RELIGION for the actions of ignorant so-called Muslims who claim they are acting on its behalf. secondly, i don't think Israel is JUST a small country that wants to be left alone. If this was the case it would not have waged a full-blown war on lebanon, killing thousands of people in order to regain 2 of their soldiers who were captured by Hezbollah. Shouldn't they think about releasing the 1000s of lebanese prisoners currently in Israel! Thirdly, Muslims do not have anything against Jews. The issue is with the Zionists and Israelis. BTW, I am NOT Lebanese. I'm simply stating what i beleive is the truth

I think most Americans must realize that hatred for thier nation and themselves is running pretty high, and has been for some time.

Prior to 9/11, America was the object of a great deal of jealousy and resentment, but that can be spun as 'admiration' if you look at it the right way.

Anti-globalization, for instance, was a huge rallying cry in the 90s, and it was, in essence, the rejection of American culture creeping into other countries via ever-increasing commerce and communication.

Immediately following 9/11, the US recieved a brief burst of pitty, some of it certainly feigned. Since then, it's become increasingly fashionable to hate America, so those negative feelings that before could be spun as 'admiration' rather than 'jealousy' or 'resentment' are now being expressed in much more open and direct ways. Even /in/ America it's not difficult to find people critical of just about anything that represents thier own nation - from corporate greed, to consumerism, to political parties (either one), to thier fellow Americans who disagree with them on hot-button issues.

With the end of the Cold War, America stood as the self-declared sole 'super power' (though I always wondered what people thought China was supposed to be, if not a massively nuclear-armed, billion-strong super power), and that's a position that just begs to be taken down a notch.

As much as America may be dispised, I think you'll find the most frequent, most virulent criticisms to be those of American 'Arrogance.'

And, ironically, Americans are culturally inclined to root for the underdog - which certainly isn't the world's 'sole super power,' now is it?

Nothing like some silly child making comments for all of Europe. Are we despised by countries jealous of our prosperity that needed our help to fight facism and communism? Yes. But talk to many europeans and they will tell you that deep down they love and appreciate America.

We have our warts, but those who despise us are totalitarians like the Arabs, the North Koreans, Al Qaeda and, ahem, the French. This poor silly writer responds to attacks on America from those camps as if they had any credibility and comparisons with Nazi Germany for the USA
are totally immature. Most of those hurling that accusation are and were in fact allies of the Nazis in the past. It's only the fools here at home who do not appreciate our freedoms that believe such tripe. America feeds the world, America is extremely generous even with her enemies and America is good. Our warts stem from stupid individuals who are self-serving within our borders, and that includes the likes of the silly person who wrote the original entry, one who CHOOSES
to believe the propaganda from coutnries and people he himself would never dare live under or with.

One other note: Bush's foreign policy is not aggressive enough, He panders to the Saudis and UAE and allows them access to Washington. We took 14 months to go to war after 9/11. Hardly an example of rushing into war.

It's lefties like you that will aid fascist Islam to succeed. They are not nice, They do not play by the rules. This is not abstract. Yeah, we secure some oil in the process-but that is a good thing! Resources are desired worldwide, if we don't get it someone will. To let a bunch cavemen run around and squander it all is historically ill-conceived.
We are not despised worldwide. Bush's policy and handling is indigent, but the need still stays the course.

I really don't care what anyone else thinks. Do you know what a joke the liberals in this country have made us look like. You do realize that Iraq could have been a parking lot by now if we weren't so freaking worried about everyones rights. They certainly will not worry about ours when they decide to attack again and they will attack again. We need to stop trying to conform to everyone else's opinion. All the libs will be whining to do something then when their loved ones are killed on American soil again. When they realize that this is a serious issue. And the media does nothing but fuels the liberals!!!

I think most of the countries who "hate" us are the same jerks with one hand reaching out for our money.

Power and money always breeds envy. I personally prefer a more aggressive foreign policy than one of appeasement.

And frankly, I don't really care what other countries think about us. They never mind taking our money, do they? They're just jealous. Our poor have a higher standard of living than many people around the world....

I really don't give a load about world opinion. They are the ones who cry about terrorism, yet abide by it. England is terrorized by the Northern Irish, Spain has been terrorized Al-Qaeda, Sri Lanka, the Philippines, France. America will not abide it, will not accept it, will not lay down to it. I think that makes these other countries angry, and jealous, because they are too cowardly to stand up, and fight it! They remind me of the French who bowed to Hitler, when he practically wiped them out! They can take their opinions, and shove them up their own twats, because WE ARE AMERICA, and NOT the cowards they would like us to be. They don't have the balls, and they will always hate us because we are stronger than they, and the Superpower of the world. If you remember, in the 80's they hated us, too. They like Gorbachev more than Reagan. Nothing has changed since then, and it never will. The weak, are always jealous of the strong.

Your draft age son would NEVER get killed.....you would send him somewhere to get him out of the draft!!

Do you really care what the world thinks???

Maybe you should rethink the Nazi comment!!! Go and talk to a veteran of WWII.....maybe you should be thanking him so we weren't force to speak German or Japanese!

As long as there are Americans....America CANNOT be destroyed.....Most of us will fight for our freedom if it's threatened!
