is this the best major for pre-med. Is this the best major to have a combination of biology and biology? Do you think that med schools will like a major in (BMB) and in Spanish.(I planned on doing this).?? Any comments?

Med schools will like the fact that you majored in biochem and molecular biology, period. The Spanish is mainly gravy and may actually be smiled upon for applicability in southern states to have fluency in Spanish.

Contrary to popular belief, there is NOT a "best major" for admission to med school. Decent med schools will focus on your GPA in the science (biology, chemistry, physics) classes you took as an undergrad. Med school admissions boards will see through an applicant who had straight A's in basket weaving, but got B's or C's in their science classes (required for admission). If you think that you can achieve high marks in your science classes AND get good marks in something outside of science, that will certainly be in your favor. But don't think that an overall great GPA with a poor science GPA will allow you to put one over on a med school admissions committee. A BMB major with a solid GPA will always look better than a philosophy major with poor science grades.

Additional note: like a previous post implied, if you are applying to med school and have a degree in anthropology (or something), and they ask, as they will, they want you to say that if you don't get into med school, then you want to be an anthropologist. Otherwise they'll know you majored in something that you thought would be an easy way into med school. Don't try to fly that kite!!!

Major in a physical or biological science. Do not major in "pre-med." You are telling the medical school that you can do anything. And, you are telling them that if you do not get accepted to medical school, you can do graduate work in your major. Then, if they accept you, and you accept them, then you could have done any thing, but decided on medicine.
