In my lifetime--yes! Reagan, was a patriot. A true American who thought it an HONOR to serve his country. He was in it for the LOVE OF AMERICA. he had the balls to stand up to our enemies. And yes there was a recession during his first term, but the cause of that was the failed policies of his predecessor. In contrast, the booming economy of the 90's that Clinton takes credit for, was the direct result of MR. REAGAN'S economic decisions. He had the humility to admit that he didn't know everything--and was a true American patriot. He loved this country--and it showed!

He's definately in the top five.

I am a great fan of Theodore 'Teddy' Roosevelt and a great fan of Ronald Reagan.

The Reagan administration has been credited with bringing down the Soviet Union, which is not a bad thing. President Reagan was known for his delagating authority, which turned out to be a good managerial method.

Reagonomics was a 'supply side' rather than a 'demand side' form of Capitalism. Supply side economics simply maintains that a surplus of goods will create a demand, so President Reagan encouraged less government and tax cuts to stimulate a lot of production.

It is generally accepted that the Clinton administration surfed on all the good economics created by his immediate predecessor, Ronald Reagan.

Ronald Reagan was a good and effective President all without being a lawyer, and that is a plus in his favor!

No, our greatest president was George Washington. No other president ever divested himself of power. George Washington could have been king. He didn't want power, a rare trait in a politician.

George Washington's advice in his Farewell Address could have saved the lives of tens of thousands of Americans: "Beware of foreign entanglements". Had we followed that advice, we never would have become embroiled in the two World Wars, Korea, Viet Nam, Iraq or Afghanistan. We would not be part of the United Nations.

That doesn't make us isolationists, as the Neo Cons insist. We could still trade with other nations, visit other nations and their citizens could visit us. We would just refrain from becoming involved in their wars.

He garnered the Berlin Wall coming down, supported his country and the military, unlike what you see today! The last Democrat to have any gumption was Kennnedy with Civil Rights and the Bay of Pigs, sad but true! He would have pushed the button, if they persisted as our current enemies are attempting to push their agenda on us. With that only two presidents in recent times, in my opinion had any courage to look our domestic and foreign enemies in the face and give them what for! Old Nikita of the USSR would be laughing at the surge of Illegal aliens, without something being done!

No...not by a mile. but he had good press agents as shown by the other posters. He ran Huge deficits that we have just gotten used to so now they think it's OK. He took credit for things he had little to do with...like the fall of the Soviets. Millions of dissidents stood up against the Soviet system and we give the credit to a guy who couldn't balance a check book and chronically over spent. The out comes of some of his policy has yet to come home but it will, and we won't like it. but that's another story.....

It is a matter of perspective, If you are very wealthy he was great. If not at least there were rich people around so you could beg for a job and work for the peanuts that trickled down.
Look at it this way, if he had not been president less work would have gotton done. More people would have had better lifestyles thus feeling less of a need to work hard to survive. There would be less yacht manufaturers and more middle class people, Is that good?

I think he was the sort of distinguished and respectable person we need in office, but I didn't respect his political positions on most things. Although W. makes Reagan look like the Easter Bunny.

Yes. Median family income rose in all income categories. Freed Iranian hostages. Cut taxes and reformed welfare. As Reagan said, welfare should go to "the needy, and not the greedy." He also ended the Cold War.
