World War 2 officially started on the first of September 1939, when Nazi Germany invaded Poland, which was an independant state. Alliance created by Nazi closer to the end of the war consisted of Germany, Italy some small European countries and Japan. Their main enemies were Soviet Union, England and USA, because rest of the European countries were basically occupied.

The war was between the Allied Power (mainly Great Britian, United States, France, Canada, Soviet Union {but they first started on the Axis Power before Germany attacked them} and the Axis Power (Germany, Japan, Italy).

At the beginning it was Germany/Austria, Italy and Japan. On the opposing side were Great Britain, USSR, France. As the war progressed Italy swapped sides and the USA joined the allies.
