There is no "other dollar". This is an old problem that any accountant can solve: you listed a debit as a credit.
The men paid $30 and received a $3 refund, yielding a net balance of $27. However, the $2 the bellboy kept should be subtracted, not added. The balance for the mythical ledger is $25, which is the price the men *should* have paid for the room. The $29 figure is a math error.
$30 paid
$25 charged
$3 refunded
$2 stolen by bellboy
--------
$30

The mistake lies in using the two dollars kept by the boy instead of the three dollars given back to them. The manager returned three dollars, not two. The two dollars is his, not the guys'.

There is no missing dollar, this a common question. It's just designed to mess your head up, because it feels as if intuitively there is a dollar missing, but really there is not. They all put 10 in, summing up to 30, 25 of which goes to the bill, 3 of which goes back to their pockets, and 2 of which go to the cheeky boy.

Your logic is faulty. There is no meaning to 27+2 = 29. What is meaningful is 27-2 = 25 which is the cost of the room.

you dont add the 2 from the boy cause its already counted in the 10 so now you have $27, the other three are in the men's pockets.
if they gace 27 that counts the boy's money too (25 for the hotel plus two for the boy's pocket)
