that's crazy! I know somebody who wrote "F**k the police" on a school wall and just got detention time at school cleaning the wall.

For abfabmom:

Arrested?? It doesnt seem the immediate punishment. Especially just for writing "okay" What is that? What kind of crime is that? To have the police come in and take her in handcuffs "Excuse me young lady, I'm arresting you for writing 'okay'." Couldn't she just get a paper towel, wipe it off, say "I'm sorry" serve some detention time after school cleaning the school (if it goes as far as that!) She wrote 'okay' on a desk. Get out of here with that! Like the war isnt enough, we gotta arrest someone with the use of a writing utensil.

Is this true? I believe it probably is. Things are getting ridiculous these days. Next they'll call the police to come in and arrest a student for chewing gum. When I was in high school in the 80's kids would get caught fighting, drinking, smoking cigs in the bathroom, etc. They NEVER called the police. They would call the parents and give you a suspension or detention. I got caught forging notes for me and my friends to get out of school for the afternoon. I got a detention for each note I wrote. Today I'd probably be sent up for 10 years for felony forgery.

I have not heard the story about writing on the desk. But it is easier for the police to catch a school girl than catch a burglar or a murderer or a rapist. And they get one more on their score-board for cleared-up crime.
I am not anti police, but I do worry that they spend time on silly so-called crime whilst real criminals are running riot.

They should all be arrested...it's destruction of public property, so I'm not sure how detention even remotely qualifies as appropriate punishment. They should all also be sent a bill for the replacement of the item they ruined...as a taxpayer, I'm kinda getting tired of paying for this stuff, when it's nothing but adolescent assholism that's messing it up.

Some context to the situation would have been nice. A link to the story, perhaps?
