Two stroke engines are powerful for their size and quick to accelerate. They can also be a bit noisy and smelly becuase they burn oil with the fuel in order to lubricate the cylinder and piston. They are very cheap to run.

Four strokes are less powerful but are quiter and smoother, becuase they are more sophisticated and developed. They are ecologically greener and have a seperate oil reserve meaning that they are less likely to seize and overheat in case you forget to add oil in the mixer tank.

To help you answer your own question, if I was looking for top speed and acceleration in a 50cc scooter, I would definitley go with a 50cc two stroke. Becuase this engine size is so tiny to start off with, you are going to need all the power you can muster to be honest for everyday traffic conditions, and especially against wind in turbulent conditions (which can emberass a rider on a small engine - believe me- Ive been there lol!)

A 50 cc four stroke will be very slow off the mark and have quite a slow top speed in comparison with a "de-restricted" 50 cc two stroke. Although the four stroke will be cleaner, modern scooter two strokes are virtually bullet-proof in terms of reliability and longevity if looked after.

The two stroke will probably do 50-60mph de-restricted (you can do this if you are over 16) and the four stroke (which can't be derestricted) will be flat out at 35-40mph depending on your weight, the bikes weight, and wether the engine is liquid or air cooled.

A 50cc two stroke is equivalent to a 100cc 4 stroke in terms of power as a rough guide.a 125cc two stroke a 250 four stroke etc.

I hope this helps. You could always try find a cheap 125 four stroke scooter- which would have enough power, plus the smoothness and reliability. Good Luck, and if you do get one ride defensivley and carefully.

depends on a actual scooter brand- a European Minerelli engine? Aprilla? or some kind of very cheap Mainland Chinese odd named 2 wheeled disaster in the making? Or a mid priced Mainland Chinese scooter with some dealers with lots of spare parts on shelf close by? Or a Taiwan or old Puch licensed Derbi or Tomos? Most of the UK market 50cc scooters from Europe are now 4 strokes, same as the Hondas and meet more market noise and emissions limits, tend to last much longer than the 1/2 priced Mainland Chinese scooters. Tomos, Kymco, Honda, Yamaha scooters in roughly good quality but cheapest price in US market listed and 4 strokes to start. Yamaha Zuma.as a 50cc 2 stroke is still pumping out 5 hp in some markets, does 45mph and sometimes 50 mph/80kph..

Take a look at tgb scooters. The 125 has a honda engine in it and they are very very reliable. and less that 2k brand new. Much depends really on how far you wish to travel. for just nipping to the supermarket down the road then 50cc is ok, any further then the 125 is the best option

Four strokes have better mileage, lower emissions, higher reliability, no gas mixing, are less likely to overheat and have longer lifespans.
Two strokes get more power per cc and tend to be cheaper.

4 stroke is gonna last alot longer. 2 stroke your gonna have to refill the oil reserve after soo many tanks (depends on the bike). 4 stroke is gonna be queiter

2stroke are noisy and recommend a mixture of oil to gas to keep them lubricated, more maintenance than a 4stroke.4stoke is better not as noisy, oil is in the base of the motor you don't have to keep adding oil to make sure it will not seize up.a4stroke will last longer than a 2stroke,2stoke need to be rebuild every so often not as reliable.

I had both. And enjoyed much more the 2 stroke one. Their engine run at more RPM, they are smoother and faster.

A 50cc scooter? They make remote controlled toy cars with bigger engines.

How can you look at yourself in the morning?
