Im 35 and i still dont know what i want to do! ha ha
Dont make plans, dont set out a 10 year or 5 year plan on how you want your life to be 'constructed'.
You could wake up tommorrow and be dead. Or you could meet the love of your life and be parents within the next 9 months!.
The best thing to do - is travel. Go and get a few temporary jobs and get some money and go see the world first, and then come back to the career thing.
Sometimes we need to lose ourselves and discover ourselves before we really know what we want.

Do what you love.
I do to some degree. I took English, Drama & Art in university. I wanted to be a writer, an actress or an artist. I gave up on the acting thing after a year with an agent & only landed one commercial. I have had some poems published. I write songs & sing in my spare time. I've sold a few paintings. I'm too practical to be a starving artist so I've found a lucrative (although soul-destroying) job in an entirely different field. My job pays the mortgage & then I do the things I love on the side. Until I can make a living from art & music they stay a hobby.
Always hold onto your dreams in some way. What do you love to do? Whatever that is that would be your dream job but if it's something a bit hard to reach (racecar driver, President) maybe you can compromise in something in that field or related in some way. Or just keep involved in hobbies related to your interests. For instance if you like cooking be a chef, or just cook & bake in your free time & take classes even if you don't make a living you can still enjoy it.
Good luck!
Follow your bliss!
:)

Sadly, most people are in careers/jobs that they don't like. They took a job 'until something better comes along' and nothing better ever came.
The job I have now has nothing to do with what I went to college for. I have changed careers/industries 3 times in the last 20 years. As I worked, I figured out what I like/disliked about the jobs/companies and then moved from there. Also, changes in technology have totally changed my job skills
DON'T TRY TO FIGURE IT ALL OUT AT ONCE...just "Follow Your Bliss" as Joseph Campbell suggests and go with the flow.

Much depends on what you want out of life. For me, money is not all that important. However, I have to make sure my family is fed, which includes my animals. But I struggle because of academic decisions I have made. Other people have much more lucrative careers. Yet, I am happy most of the time and I love my job, most of the time. What do you want out out a job or career? Do you even want a career?

Lots of things out there to do, some of which you've never heard of. Take this from a person who's tried a bunch of things in the workplace - DO WHAT YOU LOVE! If it's birds study birds and find a work niche you like; if it's mountains and nature look into the state and Federal ranger programs; if it's people and their difficulties look into sociology, law, psychology. You get the idea. Just don't waste this wonderful life taking what it hands you- do something that is wonderful for you. And you CAN do this if you put your mind to it. I wish you the best of luck!

Have to harp on like others. Find your passion and do it. To waste years doing what you don't like to do because it brings in a paycheque will hurt you spiritually, mentally and physically. If you have to do so to survive, fine, but as one answerer already is doing, keep on doing what you love on the side (and try to find a job that has some redeeming parts to it).
As to your choices in college, as already said, take a variety of courses. I took economics as one of two first courses in university and fell in love with the subject. I found out that it isn't about business and money, something I would have never known if I hadn't taken that first course.
Good luck in your search and don't stop looking until you find your passion.
Peace

I dont think most people just figure it out. It might just come to them, seriously. If you really dont know what to do, just take a variety of courses, enriching your knowledge. You are really going to be thankful for that. Maybe try those tests that help you figuring out your career options.

We all have talents. The problem is most don't know what they are really good at compared to others. Find your strengths with aptitude tests and through your college grades. If you are one of the lucky ones who know what they are talented in you will succeed in your job life because you are naturally better than others in that particular field. Most, nevertheless, go through life without knowing what are their true talents.
