As a teacher (and obviously once a student), I would tjere are multiple reasons

1) Lack of education and love of learning at home. When I was younger, I read CONSTANTLY. Kids today seem to not read much. The students I taught hated reading. They would do ANYTHING to get out of reading. If you like reading, then a lot of education is easier and therefor more fun. I also liked learning
2) Parents may not be supportive of education. They may have hated school and pass that on to their kids
3) A lot of society make school look bad. Movies, songs, etc... Especially past elementary school.
4) Some schools just stink. Multiple problems and the staff don't do enough to fix it.
5) Once students start to experience difficulty, their enjoyment of school tends to ebb off. How many love elementary school, but middle school isn't much fun and they hate high school (other then for social reasons).
6) Boring, dumbed down subject matter that is taught by unimaginative uncaring teachers. Face it, teaching often sucks worse then being a student. I can't count how many times I have been insulted, had things stolen or whatever. I have been attacked by students with everything from their fists to a baseball bat. (think goodness for martial arts). In most school districts, there is no incentive to being a GOOD teacher. You don't get paid any more then the worst teacher, so why try harder? I often was at the school past 5 pm grading and getting ready. Other teachers were sneaking out 5 minutes after the kids even though they were required to stay until at least 3pm (our school was out a 2:20). How much would you care if it seemed every student hated you, hated the subject, hated the school and tried to make your life hard? So some stop trying.

I think the main reason might be
7) If you like school, you're a . Come on! Kids seem to make fun or even hate kids that like school and/or do well. Why would you want to show any pleasure, even if you had any?

Eh... some random thoughts of a teacher.

Cause they're kids. From kinder till about 6th grade, little kids are learning all the basics, and from my volunteer work, they never say "i dont wanna learn this." It's fun to them, it may be hard work getting their brain gears moving, but they like it.

When kids start hitting the puberty age.. that's when it gets tough. I remember when my social studies teacher would give lectures, i wouldn't pay attention. I'd be looking at that girl 2 rows across from me. Plus you got all your friends, and peer pressure kicks in. More real life problems come up, things happen to you that have never happened. All that stuff might be more important to them than how to graph X on a coordinate plane.

I disliked school because of 1 thing: Homework. School is fun, you got your friends, some cool teachers, you learn some things on how mummies are made and stuff. But at the end of the day when you have to take it all home with you, that's when they think "ugh this is whack. more work.."

That doesnt mean everyone is like that though, there are kids in the GATE program, STAR program, Advance Placement programs, and all those programs they make for kids who want to learn and do more.

But hey, it takes those few knuckleheads to make everyone else look bad. But who cares? We need janitors.

1.They don't realize how fortunate they are, or they do know, but it sort of fades away because they're so accustomed to it.
2. They'd rather be doing something "fun" with their friends. They feel like they're wasting their youth sitting in a classroom all day listening to somebody speak. They want excitement!
3.they have to do work in class and they always want to be lazy and do nothing.
4. Sometimes they just don't understand a subject and can't figure it out and their parents get mad at them for their grades.
5. some teachers are just so so boring, and don't have the ability to teach and it makes them feel like school is a waste of time. If everyone had good teachers that could teach and were very fun, they most likely wouldn't be a problem.

Double messages from media, parents and teachers themselves. We tell kids how important reading is, then plop down in front of the t.v/video/etc. I have had parents who show up at every parent teacher conference to tell me how much they help their kids but they are the same ones who took the kids out of school for the opening of the mall, beginning of base ball season, for the Super bowl (parent hang-over) and the inaugural celebration. Kids also pick up on what's important by media.. and seldom are academic achievements mentioned..oh but everyone knows their teams key players, everyone knows Nicole Smith but who knows who their senator is?
The minute a teacher tries to teach a kid an important message in accountability, the parent storms into the office to complain...
Teachers: some are poor people-persons. I have heard some appalling language come out of some teachers mouths. Some people just ought not to be teaching!
In the Universities, professors have great latitude but elementary teachers, some with as many credit hours as a professor, are told when to dot their eyes and cross their tees. They are under great presure to complete all the paper work...the kids feel it, they know that the teachers are distracted and it begins a cat and mouse game by acting up...
Well, of course not everyone, but certainly a lot do.

i'm 33 and an English instructor. i don't think of extending the college could make lots difference. In my adventure, pupils that are from ecu or Asian countries have lots extra inner motivation. This comes from the society and from mom and dad. Making the college day longer could make it very puzzling for colleges to run any high quality extra desirable-curricular classes, which includes athletics or nice-arts. of direction, teachers take priority, although, now and lower back, those are the excuses the toddlers stay in school in the 1st place. They get their coaching on the comparable time, and paintings very puzzling to stay eligible to take part. If the college day have been prolonged, what approximately athletic activities? Orchestra/band/choir concert activities? college performs? while could those ensue? i'm able to verify the positives in some areas, nonetheless. they're incredibly glaring in poorer communities, the place the mummy and dad probably don't have a intense college coaching, much less a school degree. Extending the college 365 days could desire to be distinctly useful in those areas. pupils in poorer communities oftentimes do not make many strides over the summer season and, in many circumstances, certainly regress. Having a shorter summer season could desire to cut back that. or perhaps offering a summer season enrichment application could help.

I am not too sure. I happen to like going to school, it gets me out of the house an meeting new people. But I mean I get tire of it, I have been going to school since well..Kinergarten. Sometimes I would rather be at home sleeping, playing sports, playing games, other things than schooling. Kids tend to get confused with school work and instead of fixing their problem they just give up. Middle school is usually where it happens at, you lose your mind and become agrivated. That is why a lot of 8th graders and Highschoolers are just over the whole school thing.

All I know is, when I got to college, I was IN NO WAY WHATSOEVER prepared!!! I had great attendance and great grades all the way up till high school graduation- I think they teach a LOT of unnecessary information to kids in school. They need to teach you the basics at a young age. stuff that helps you in everyday life for the long run- That and the fact that kids are so disrespectful these days. Its sad.

I think that it is just the fact that they are being forced to do something. Also studies have shown that the natural sleep patterns for middle school and High school students is from 10pm-8am meaning, that is in some way it is not natural for them to wake up that early. The study even said that the kids would learn better if school started around10am. It is weird but true. Perhaps it is just the simple fact of waking up early.

kids have always not really liked school. at the same time there has always been some kids who do enjoy school. Its not that children dont enjoy getting an education. they believe it is important and all but with hormones racing and with lots of energy, no kid wants to be locked down.

I think young children enjoy school and are eager to learn. But as they get into the higher grades there are more issues such as conformity, bullying, sexual harassment, etc. Then, in many neighborhoods, it's not cool to be a good student.

Unfortunately, all too often peer pressure trumps common sense.
