This is kind of a hard topic because so many schools are against cell phones. However.. I would just stick with what you already have. The most important thing should be safety. Use real life facts.. like Columbine High School. If you could convince your teacher that with if those kids had cell phones, everything would have turned out a lot better. Teachers love when you use real facts! (I mean honestly, what other reasons are there to have a cell phone at school... kids have been getting along fine without them for yeaaaaaaaars)

No, it's way too easy to get distracted with them. At my child's school it's allowed ONLY if the parent has signed a permission slip for the child to keep it off and in his backpack the whole day long for example if the child needs to use it after school for some reason. I think this policy is fine but there should never be a time when kids should be carrying around cells during their classes, and never should the phone be on if a child doesn't need it. I have signed the permission slip simply because they take a bus and in the event of an emergency I want to be able to contact them. They also play sports and it is useful for away games when they travel on a bus. My children know that there will be firm consequences if I find out that their phone has been on for any reason at school and if they have been calling/texting someone during class.

Hi kutelittleflirt,
Personally I don't think cell phones are a classroom necessity.
In an emergency parents can contact students through the school officials. 911 calls can be made from any school phone and are in fact better made that way. A wired phone gives 911 operators the location of the emergency.
Students using cell phones for voice or instant messaging are disrupting the rest of the class and the user is distracted from the class subjects. When you get in the workplace you are not going to be allowed to socialize while working. It is good adult preparation to realize there is a time & place for everything.
And, no - I am not a teacher nor do I have any relation in any way to schools.

I also have to do a speech on cell phones at school, and i have found a lot of reasons.
Like ...some schools have only one area to look up how to spell words or to look up information for projects. If phones where allowed at school everyone would be able to do it. But cells shouldn't be used all the time.

I bring my phone to school every day. However, I always keep it on silent mode and only take it out once in a while to check what time it is. Unfortunately, some students do misuse the privilege of having a cell phone at school and are texting friends nonstop, but if you are a responsible student, I think a phone is a handy thing to have in case of emergency. (Or, if it's like my school, the clocks are always covered up and you have no way of knowing the time!)

have you completely decided you want to choose that side? why not choose the side with the most points to it instead?
1.say many people cheat, every day, in your school, there are people texting during class when they should be learning and that the policies aren't stopping people from using them
2. the cameras in the phone could be used to take pictures which exceed the limits of privacy
3. their parents aren't supposed to contact them when they're in school. they're supposed to study. And if they need to call their paren't they can use the school phone
and remember counterarguments! say many people claim cellphones are necessary for emergencies, but in actuality, they very rarely happen.
they say that cell phones are put under many restrictions, but these restrictions are very easily broken.

If kids were allowed cellphones in school some would abuse that right and text their friends in class but there are other kids who just keep it there in case of emergency. I hope this helped with your report.

Sorry, students should go to the principal's office to make emergency calls from designated phones.

I think you should choose another topic because no cell phones in school is the ONLY way to go.
That is my opinion anyway..and you know what they say about those.
