If you are using Sonic be sure to select the correct format for playback. IN sonic open MyDVD, choose Video on the left.
Choose Create Project and DVD
Click the Add Files option to add the video you wish to burn to DVD.
You can create chapters at this point if you wish then simply click the big red burn button.

Go eat dinner and allow to burn.

mpg is the shortened version of MPEG

to clarify:
DVD-R can be written to only once
DVD-RW (DVD-rewritable) can be rewritten multiple times

To protect your movies I would suggest using DVD-R so that they will not accidentally be written over

Maybe if you used a DVD-RW instead of the DVD-R when recording it might play on other DVD players. I am unable to help you in any way....too complicated for me.

The reason I mention the DVD-RW is because I was copying some VHS tape recordings, which are important to me, on to DVD and I used DVD-R discs and, like you, when I tried to play them on other DVD players they wouldn't work. As the DVD-R discs I used could not be made compatible I did all the copying again..this time useing DVD-WR discs and they worked on all players. So perhaps that would work for you too.

you do not just copy a file to dvd if you want to watch it first make sure its a mpeg format to play on a home dvd player then you need to burn it to disc you and do this with windows media player 11 or by buying a burner program nero or roxio are the best

Hi. In order to play a DVD on a DVD player, the data has to be in a certain format. The disk will play on your PC because the data, probably avi or mpg, is readable to it. If you put a DVD in the drive and open it as a file you will see what format the player needs to see. Hope this helps.

One answer says "DVD-R is read only, try and use DVD-RW" that is false, I use DVD-R to burn movies all the time. DVD-RW is even less compatible on cheaper DVD players

DVD-R - Is read only. I don't think you can write on it. Try it with DVD-RW (The disk that you use should be RW (Read & Write). If it is DVD-R it is read only. you cannot write anything on it.

Hope it helps.
