It seems to happen when its cold and only when its closing. It will go down a few feet then return up but I stop it by pressing the button again to halt and once more to continue down. Hafl the time I will have to do that a few feet later as well. NO there isnt anything in the lazer; it has a ready light. Can anyone help?

check the limit switches to see if they are tripping early.

what brand is it? If it is craftsman, liftmaster, or anything made by the chamberlain group you will find two blue knobs either on the back or the right hand side. Turn the one with the up arrow toward the higher number. These are your sensitivities settings. In cold weather it will take more force to open or close door. Just wondering when door goes down then reverses and you stop it, does the operator click and lights flash? If it does then your eyes are out of line. if there is even a flicker in the recieving eye it will do this. If it doesnt click and lights dont flash it is sensitivites more than likely

Two things

The safety light may be getting blocked or getting fogged up.
There may a torque switch inside the opener that will reverse if it takes too much effort to go down. There will be some adjustment to increase the setting to keep this from happening.

Check for condensation on the lense. When the door opens the cold air hitting the warmer lense could cause this problem.

When the door is up and opened ....I press the control to close ...it moves about 2 feet and the long arm hits the door while moving to close and reverses back to open ....Hope this is clear enough ...Thanks

mine does the same thing....call an electrician to reset it.
