As much as they legally own. There is no law that restricts how much you carry. The issues:
First, it gets stolen from you its hard to prove how much you had and it will be lost forever most likely.
Second, if you are implicated in a crime such as robbery and you have 10,000 dollars on you it is unlikely they will believe that you just like walking around with that kinds of cash.

The answer is as much as you can stuff in all your pockets. Donald Trump probably walks around with $10,000 in his pockets for spending money.
There's no legal limit. However, beware! Law enforcement sometimes confiscates large quantities of cash and "alleges" that its used as part of an unlawful enterprise.
This seems to be a wonderful trick they use to screw honest citizens out of their money.
But the truth is, just carrying cash is not illegal. Now carrying cash, twirling a gun, and scoring an ounce of blow, that can get you in trouble. The cash is then considered a part of the crime.
But just carrying cash and no crime. Not supposed to be a problem.

It would be more more correct to ask: how much cash can one carry without tempting somebody to rob you?
Legally, you can carry all you have, even if you need a truck for that.

I do believe that is is $9,999. Anything over $10,000 you have to have paperwork to show why you have it. But I would still be carefull cuz if the law thinks it was used for anything illegal they can seize it. It's called civil assest forfeiture.
