How do you setup a gear ratio?

It is expressed as the number of revolutions the input shaft makes for one reveloution of the output shaft.

So a ratio of 3.50 would mean that the input shaft will have to rotate 3 and a half times for the output shaft to rotate once.

pinion to ring gear and to figure the ratio you divide the ring by the pinion for instance 40 tooth ring divided by 10 tooth pinion =4.10 ratio
