Because since the 1959s the Big 3 auto manufacturers and the oil companies have had such control over our government that development of any form of transportation other than automobiles has been totally stifled. We've poured billions of dollars into freeways and Interstates while literally going backwards in building mass or rail transit. We've actually taken out streetcars and rail lines so that people no longer have a choice.

As a society the Japanese expend a lot of energy and time attempting to change their society for bettering the lives of each other and they do it through their advanced technologies, many Asian cultures do not have the concept of the word I,
they say We, in fact where we say I am hungry they say Stomach empty. In the United States we are very selfish and mostly only care for our selfs. Ever hear of a homeless problem in Japan?

Our automanufacturer's conspired together long ago to cripple the mass transit system. They bought em up and ran them into the ground. Then they dissolved our social markets and built malls for us to congregate in. They have done every thing they can think of to make us drive.
