Christians have had to do some interesting contortions to connect the ancient spring festival to Christianity. If anyone says a word about eggs being a symbol of Simon or the tomb's stone or Mary Magdalene proving Jesus to a king, one must wonder why an egg isn't then a Jesus symbol year-round, instead of only when there's competition.

Rabbits and eggs are both symbols of the fertility goddess Eostre/Ishtar/Ostara. Her symbol is also the moon, in which some cultures see a rabbit instead of a face. Eggs also symbolize the moon and are the ultimate symbol of creation and new life. The basket is a symbol of the womb in which this new life is carried.

The feast day is pagan and was widely celebrated way before the time of Jesus. Like pretty much all holidays, it was adopted by Christians to help get more converts. However, since the point is to celebrate new life and the hope of continuance, Christian symbols of a Resurrection day and the old pagan symbols mean the same thing. Just like Christmas, we are all celebrating the same thing, just using different symbols.

It has something to do with the fertility of rabbits (actually started out with hares) and the fact that Catholics were to not eat eggs during lent so come Easter there was an abundance of eggs. German Protestants found this particular Catholic custom appealing but did not want to tie it to Catholic practices so they told their children the Hare (still dealing w/fertility I suppose....I found the text a bit confusing) would lay the eggs when no one was looking and only good little boys and girls could get the colored eggs it laid.

People came up with it to get around the real meaning of Easter. Same way they do with Christmas. Easter Bunny, Santa, etc. It's pathetic.

Same thing with Christmas and Santa Claus. There are some theories out there but bottom line, its just a way to commercialize it.

My doctrine is not mine, but his that sent me. If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself.

He that speaketh of himself seeketh his own glory; but he that seeketh his his glory that sent him, the same is true, and no unrighteous in in him

--- You can not serve mammon (capitalism) and God

--- Steadfast in the Apostles' doctrine ---

This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me. But in vain they do worship me, teaching for the doctrine the commandment of men
