I've been called "closed-minded" for my lack of religious beliefs, but never a "bigot". I always thought a bigot was somebody who's intolerant of other people for whatever reason, the religious people who are intolerant of your beliefs are actually bigots themselves. Anyway, when confronted with the religion issue, the less you say, the better. If somebody has already bought into the whole religion thing, they're probably not going to agree with your views, and I don't like insulting people so I basically just smile and get the hell out of the situation. Personally, I believe in some form of energy, force, God, Allah, Yahweh, whatever, but I do not believe in religion at all, it's man-made. The only people who know the truth aren't around to talk about it, and anybody who claims to know the truth or that they "talk to God" are either lying or hallucinating, or both. If you find somebody who's not offended by your views and wants to talk, it can be enlightening. I have a friend who is deeply religious and totally tolerant of everybody's views, we sit and talk for hours and it's great.

I'm an atheist and I've never been called that, to my face anyway. I know some people have looked down their noses at me.

But from what I can see from a lot of Atheists in the world, they are just as radical as religious radicals. They enjoy taunting religious people. And it makes it much harder for Atheists like me who just want to have the freedom to believe as they wish and keep a low profile, which is how all beliefs should be handled, quietly in your own little world.

You are absolutely welcome to your religious beliefs, my brother.

I just ask that you don't try to "get in bed" with politicians who lick their lips at the thought of being able to control what others hear, read or see.

Christianity was NEVER designated at the "state" religion. In the USA, all religions are equal.

Do I need to repeat that?

I could care less what my fellow Americans believe in - or don't believe in.

Just don't buy into the fantasy that Jesus sanctions your getting up in people's faces with your "witnessing" when similar aggressive behavior would get you arrested in any city on the map.

You wanna hand out "tickets for Jesus," fine, brother.

Just don't get too aggressive about it or a circuit court judge will explain to you the dividing line between "witnessing" and "harassment."

When it comes to the religious subject, I've found that truth cannot be discussed outside the context of inquiry, knowledge, and logic, and all need be very broadly considered ! Proof always supersedes conjecture....

See, that's what you get called when you ridicule others for their beliefs, and that's exactly what you've been doing. No one cares what you believe, it's when you constantly bash others for what they believe that you draw those kinds of comments. You are projecting yourself as a close-minded bigot. Yours must be a very sad, tiny existance.

Why do people with lack of religious beliefs call people names who have religious beliefs?

You seem to find it necessary to attack those that believe. How many people here asked you what you do or do not believe. Looking at your questions posted in the last few minutes you appear to want to antagonize those that have a belief different from yours.

It would depend on what the conversation was.. If you try to start a religous war all the time, then you would certainly deserve the title..

Well?

If you insult people who *do* have beliefs, you would certainly qualify as a close-minded bigot.

Since I don't have the rest of the story, that's my best guess.
