Do you guys really believe that 100 years from now, America will be a more right-wing conservative country?

That is certainly not the trend America and the rest of western civilization has followed. Except for a few

minor setbacks, the trend has been towards:
- expanding the rights of minorities
- expanding social freedoms for everybody
and
- toward more government regulation of business and more social programs in an effort to protect workers, citizens, consumers, and the environment from aristocracy and corporate abuse

Let me elaborate:

EXPANDING EQUAL RIGHTS FOR MINORITES:
- first democracy for the common man
(read about the origin of the term "left-wing")
- next the white landless
- then the slaves
- then white women
- then full equality for minorities
- then jehova witnesses, atheists, and other religious minorities
- and now gays.

EXPANDING SOCIAL FREEDOMS:
- first the right for a woman to be a strong leader without being burn as a witch
- then the right to be a nonbeliever in a christian majority country and not be killed
- then pluralistic gov't by banning religious tests for office (in America)
- then freedom of expression, speech, religion, and the rest of the bill of rights
- then interracial marriage
- then the right to an abortion
- then in vitro fertilization
- then the right to porn, strip clubs, and in Nevada prostitution
(Hey, don't like it, don't participate)
- and now stem cell research, the right to die, medical marijuana, and gay marriage

I'm sure I'm missing some good ones.

Aslan,

You say conservatives are not against any of the points I mentioned. Well, they aren't today, but they were in the past. Before these views become mainstream it was liberals who were pushing them and conservatives who opposed them.

Fast forward in time and now today's controversial issues are gay marriage, the right to die, universal healthcare, medical marijuana, and abortion.

If you look at the trends in history it is almost a given liberals will once again succeed in making these rights legal/mainstream.

You are just a tiny bit condescending in your presentation, but I thought I'd answer anyway.
Conservatives are not against any of the points you mentioned. Conservatives in America support the four basic freedoms our country was founded on:
Freedom of speech
Freedom of religion
Freedom from fear
Freedom from want
The way the last two of these freedoms presents itself to a person is what defines a liberal and a conservative. If people would take the time to understand the difference in how these two freedoms are perceived, there might be more discussion on common ground rather than differences.

Freedom from fear;
Conservatives gain freedom from fear by the existence of a strong authority, be that a military or police force through government, or a ruling deity as in religion. Any attacks against these authorities are seen as a threat to their freedom from fear.
Liberals see a strong authority as a threat to their personal liberties or a possible oppressive force. The means by which conservatives gain freedom from fear actually creates fear among liberals.
Whenever fear presents itself to either side all logic evaporates.

Freedom from want
Oddly the roles between conservatives and liberals reverses in this area.
Liberals want a strong authority to establish rules in order to create a level playing field so all people have the opportunity to succeed.
Conservatives perceive this type of authority as a threat to their personal liberties and a possible oppressive force. The means by which liberals wish to obtain freedom from want is seen by conservatives as a hindrance to acheiving that goal.

Pissing contests neven move the country forward. Only understanding the inner needs of the two distinct groups of people in this country can shape programs the satisfy the four basic freedoms we all believe in.

I have a little question for you name me the last president that ran stating that he was a liberal and won if liberalism was such a great ideal, why does every politician denies being a liberal when running for office, I say stand up and be proud.

That will never happen because most people with any common sense knows liberalism like communism is a bankrupt philosophy that why they try and hide it when running for office.

You poor screwed up commie hippie. What does smoking dope, supporting communist countries, forcing pornography on children, Killing premature children, banning religion, creating a court of un-elected legislators, taking away state sovereignty, and being wrong on every prediction of doom that every Liberal has ever made have to do with expanding freedom for everyone?

Remember this one. "It will cost thousands of American lives to take over Iraq" or "It will take at least 2 years to put out all the oil well fires in Iraq." or "the world population will be 10 billion by the end of the 1980's and by the year 2000 half the population of the world will be starving." or "or George W Bush is not paying enough attention to foreign affairs."

Why don't you read what is written on the Jefferson and Lincoln memorials. Read the Constitution if you got the guts then you would understand conservatives. If you get smart enough one day you may be able to figure out that to be Right wing American is impossible. How can you be to much in favor of the Constitution?

I agree wholeheartedly with your last point - You ARE missing quite a bit...

We will breed you out. Christians - religious people in general are having far more children than you bleeding heart secular libs. It is just a matter of time before the pendulum swings the other way.

You also missed the source of most of the developments you cited. Religious Activism and well led Military power! Your marches and chanting "hey hey, ho ho, genocide has got to go" do not get the job done.
Secular activists are rather late on the scene here...

BTW - stem cell research was never illegal. You just haven't been able to steal my money to fund it.

Apparently, not. Conservative means exactly that: Stay the course, to use the president's phrase. Or, to go backwards in history, and introduce principles of the past.

Liberal means to be more open, to accept change. Sometimes its for the better, and sometimes it is for the worst. But, at least it means more freedom for us!

I agree.

I believe the era of the Republican's artificially moving this country's moderate factions more towards the conservative side of thinking has ended; the moderates are ready to move more towards the liberal end of the spectrum, expecially concerning adopting a nation-wide health care system; allowing judges more discretion in sentencing crimnals, especially concerning drug-related crimes; and better surveillance and regulation concerning the illegal practices of big business.

You mean like republican abe lincoln and the civil war which freed people from slavery? was that a losing side of history? I guess maybe if you are taught in some of the schools these days it might be.

I could only hope this is true. I wouldn't want my future ancestors to have to live in an intolerant right-wing fascist regime machine.

But unfortunately there are clearly signs of right-wing control of our government. After all look at it's leaders. Right-wingnuts all of them.

You're missing one thing. Without Conservatives, you gutless Liberals wouldn't have the freedom to do anything. Without Churchill, Reagan, Thatcher, you gutless wonders would be speaking German or Russian in some hell hole Gulag!
