Seriously...people have nerve to call Brian Urlacher, Julius Peppers, Peyton Manning, Troy Polamalu, Shaun Alexander, and Chad Johnson overrated on a regular basis. Why do you think people tend to say things like that? Jealous? Dislike for being on a different team? Pride? Idiocy?

Reggie Bush has himself a 50-50 split of overrated-rated fine

So who isn't overrated?

I'm not calling anyone of those guys overrated BTW, those are a few guys that I've seen called overrated in the past week.

All those players you just mentioned are NOT overrated. Come on, all of them except Chad Johnson played in the Super Bowl! People think theyre overrated because either they are Packers fans, or just plain dumb, which is pretty redundant, sorry. You either like Chad Johnson, or you hate him. You either say "Chad Johnson, what will he think of next? Youve gotta love him." or you say "Grow up, and enough with this Ocho Cinco crap." The people who hate him are dumb though, because his antics and dances and shows and nicknames are all just for show, and to make him more popular. Its working too, everyone knows who he is. Most of the reason people think good players are overrated is because of jealousy. Hey Packers fans, Brian Urlacher wouldnt be so horrible if he was on your team now would he?

Not Overrated:
LaDainian Tomlinson, Steven Jackson, Frank Gore, Lance Briggs (not recently), Clinton Portis, Marc Bulger... The list goes on and on. Alot of people will disagree, but I say Rex Grossman is. Who led the Bears to the Super Bowl, some guy named Vinnie? Youve also got guys like Troy Brown, who plays 2 different positions, and has been playing for 16 years.

Most Overrated Players:
The Dallas Cowboys team as a whole especially Tony Romo (was I the only person in America who didnt buy into him?), Joey Porter (he talks a bunch of crap, then got released), Ray Lewis (he was good 2 years ago, but now hes getting old). This list is even longer then the other.

Hines Ward - he comes out and plays well every game (consistent even when injured), and is usually double teamed or tripple teamed. He doesn't get the press or fantasy football ratings that many of the other receivers in the NFL get because the Steelers don't throw as much as other teams and he doesn't do dumb things and end up on the news.

I do think that many people are overly harsh in judging a player to be overrated though. Some people think that just because a player plays in a good system that they are overrated (- that they are only a success because of that system), which is not always true-you can only find out once they have gone to another system and flopped (Duce Staley for example was overrated when he played for Philadelphia).

Reggie Bush. For a guy who came into the NFL with so much hype(Heisman winner, All-Pac 10 at Southern Cal), Reggie hasn't distinguished himself very much. Sure, the Saints have made the playoffs only once in Reggie's career, and Reggie has been hurt a lot. But I expected more from him, considering he was a #1 overall draft pick. A close second is Matt Leinart. Like Reggie, his ex-USC teammate, Matt was a Heisman winner. However, as a quarterback, Matt hasn't done that well in the pros, and he was beaten out as the Cardinals' starting QB by Kurt Warner. Kurt, a two-time NFL MVP and a Super Bowl winner when he was with the Rams, has revived his career in Arizona, and with All-Pro wideouts Anquan Boldin and Larry Fitzgerald, Kurt might not only give the Cardinals a winning record but an NFC West title.

Anyone who thinks P. Manning or Urlacher is overrated is just plain stupid. It's to be expected by some of these people. They are probably the same people who say Kobe is better than Jordan. Stupid. Also, Reggie Bush is the most overrated player I have ever seen, but no one on your list is.

Who is overated and who is not? Well it depends, who is doing the rating? Take Peyton Manning as a example. He is advertised in the news and the media as the best current QB. Esp. after he won the super bowl. However youalso have a hugh faction that says that Tom Brady is the best current QB. Therfore the people who hear that Manning is the best, but dont belive it will stamp him as overrated. It always depends on who is rating the players and who is disagreeing or agreeing.

Brian Urlacher

Manning is overrated in the sense that he is the media's golden boy and the only way to live up to the way they hype him is if he went 16-0 and then could do good in the playoffs. He SUCKS in the playoffs. He is a choke artist when they come around. As to players that aren't overrated- Hines Ward. Never gets much attention and all he does is his job.

none of those guys are over rated. Urlacher is defenatly not overrated, i really think Urlacher is what keeps that defense running so well.

i think people say these guy are over rated. either they are angry/jelous of that player, like that player is in the division your team is in. over here alot of people say bad things about Shaun Alexander because 2 years ago he dominated the NFC west. (of course last year the Seahawks did lose to the 49ers twice). i know of several Saints fans that say Julius Pepers is over rated.

Tomlinson isn't overrated, because his talent is off the rating scale. Trent Green wasn't overrated - he was underrated as a quarterback during his time with the Chiefs. I'll throw another Chief out there, Tony Gonzales. There are more but I'll leave it at that.

when i say a player is overrated, i refer mostly to the money the player demands. for example, i always say TO is overrated. reason being is the number of passes he drops and money he demands. he is passed to twice as many times as anyone else on the team, thats y he has td's. overrated to me doesnt mean their not good, it means they are over looked at. there are many players who are not overrated, such as LT, Frank Gore, etc. tough to say. its all based upon opinion, not so much on hate though. as a packers fan, i dont think urlacher is overrated. he's the heart and soul of the bears D and makes plays. he doesnt cause problems either.
