Well first off? A Colony of Bee's never really die! Instead a larvae is selected within the hive, and the drones begin to feed the larvae with a form of 'enriched honey' called 'Royal Jelly' that allows the larvae to become much larger, live longer and produce more eggs! This specially fed larvae will develope into the New Queen, and emerge into the colony! But the game is not over yet...this new Queen will have to contest her reign with the much older Queen Bee! Usually this means that the older Queen will be killed-in the battle that ensues between the older Queen and the younger one! Occasionally the older Queen will win-and continue to rule the colony, until another contender is brought into the colony-but typically the older Queen will die eventually! And a newer Queen will take reign over the hive! And the Drones will immediately follow suit, and serve the new reigning Queen Bee! In a very few instances...if a successful Queen cannot be produced within the colony? The Bee's will typically disperse, and join other colonies nearby-that do have a reigning Queen Bee! This attraction is done by the aid of pheromones...a scent that is emitted by the Queen Bee to attract other Bee's into the colony, and to signal the Queens various desires! People who have their own Aperie's or Beehives, will often order a new Queen Bee from a supplier-and place the 'Mail Order Queen' into a new hive. She would soon develope a following of new Bee's,usually stragglers from an older colony-or one that has dispersed itself! She may even take in Bee's from the nearest colony,at least until the two colonies reach near equalibrium(comparable size). You usually get a new Queen in a somewhat long and narrow small wooden box, that has a screen on the face of it. Large enough to allow the new colony to service her...until the owner fully introduces her into the hive! This is an 'Introduced Queen' that you would mail order...and is typically delivered to you via a specialized courier service-I'm not kidding you! So the proper answer is...No! A colony of Bee's never really dies, even after the Queen has been killed! I hope this answered your Question? P.S. I use to keep 10 Bee colonies in my backyard! To the smart-*** that told you to ignore the other answerer's who contributed an answer! You cannot be much of a 'Zoologist' if you didn't know the answer to this Question? I use to keep 10 Bee aperies, and I have considerable insight on this! I would really like to see your credentials on this subject? Thx. theerrander!

The colony of bees will continue to survive if the queen is killed as long as it has eggs or young larva available. Sensing the loss of queen pheromone the colony will raise multiple queens to ensure the hives survival. The strongest queen will kill its rivals and rule the hive.

The "zoologist" who "took training less" should have taking more training before answering this question.

Don't listen to the others. please. they are just ignorants. a colony can not survive without a Queen. to answer your question, they will live a few months after the queen dies. a queen never takes place unless the queen gave birth with a young queen. those young Queens might(less likely) take place. they usually don't and it could be impossible because the young queens look for a new home.

if the queen dies another will replace her in the hive the drones and workers do not die after the queen does . a new queen is born form the eggs that the old queen laid and takes over the old queens duties .

They don't. They 'breed' a new queen. It is actually the food they feed the larvae that determines if it becomes a drone of a queen.

A hive mind is a joy for ever.

I dont think they die, I think a new queen takes over, just like in a wolf pack, if the leader dies, the one that is now the strongest takes over.
