W/o looking it up real quick and doing a cut and paste job, I'd like to know exactly what people know about him.

Where does he stand on abortion?
The war?
Healthcare?
Immigration?

Anyone actually know, or have you formed an opinion based solely on the fact that he's dark skinned and Democrat?

Typical for Repubs.

I know an awful lot about Obama.

What I'm trying to figure out is if people don't "like" him or won't vote for him because he's a.) a black man or b.) a Democrat, or both.

Most people who voice opinions about a candidate have done so because they've heard other people giving opinions, but because they're informed voters..

Mathew, I watch plenty of news and don't give me a lecture on being PC.

I could labotomize myself and still know more about politics than you.

You're so funny. Over 100,000 people donated to his campaign Jesse Jackson was black and a democrat yet he didn't get that kind of support so it's not just because he's black and a democrat. You can say black as opposed to dark-skinned you know. Black people actually preffered to be called black and not African-American or Dark skinned.

On Abortion: He think it's wrong, but want women to have the right to choose what they want to do in that situation.

On the War: He opposed it from the beginning and he wants a deadline for our troops to come home.

Healthcare: He wants Universal healthcare.

Immigration: He wants to secure our borders. He wants to enforce the U.S. immigration laws. He wants people here illegally to pay a fine and if they can't be deported cuz they have children who were born here and are U.S. citizens then there should be a program where they can start to get a recognized status, but start at the back of the line. Not given any special preference or automati status just because they have children who are U.S. citizens.

He was interviewed on Larry King Live. Watch news sometimes, dude.

I run a political page on myspace: www.myspace.com/whitehouse2008

You can get info on all the candidates.

Where does he stand on abortion?

Haven't heard anything specific, I assume as a dem he's basically suportive of a woman's right to choose.

The war?

Against it, obviously, but not so delusional as to think an immediate pull out would be a good idea.

Healthcare?

For universal health care.

Immigration?

No American politician is against Immigration, legal or illegal.

Other things I've heard:

He's half white American and half Kenyan, raised in a middle-class white family. Not exactly the typical African-American, certainly not a boy from the 'hood.

He's a church-going christian.

He's on the 'inexperienced' side for a presidential candidate.

He's written a book.

That's about it...

Oh, and he raised something like 24 million for his campaign last quarter, about tying Hillary. That gives him some added clout.

Well, I can't really quote him on the issues, but I am reading The Audacity of Hope and have not come across anything that puts me off - and in the book he basically lays out his positions in clear detail. (Note to the wingnuts who keep claiming that he doesn't publicize his positions: read the book, it is all there in B&W!)

From what I recall:
I think he is pro-choice.
He opposed the war from the outset and I believe supports a timetable for coalition withdrawl.
He feels that some simple changes to our health care system will save a great deal of money while improving health care coverage for the under served.
He says that the immigration system is clearly broken, but I can't recall exactly what he proposes to fix it, although I do believe (but I could be wrong, so don't quote me!) that he supports a pathway to citizenship for longtime law abiding illegal immigrants.

Although I haven't memorized it, the book is very impressive and it has solidified my opinion of him as a worthy candidate for president - and hopefully a successful one!

My Dad hopes he will be a new Abraham Lincoln with his positive message of hope ... it's a bit much to ask, but maybe he can even reach some of the haters on the far right!

Actually I am quite impressed with Obama. He's young, not bad looking, has charisma, learns fast, learns from mistakes and adapts as required. These are all good traits for leadership. I don't give a damn about his skin color or his religion (he is a Christian) but I do care about his stance on the war. He is against it and has been from the beginning. I don't agree with universal healthcare but I so think we need affordable healthcare. I think Mr. Obama will figure that out eventually. Immigration when done legally is good for America. Note, I say legally. Mr. Obama wants illegal aliens to be able to participate in society and favors a guest worker program. I am with him on the guest worker program with those workers having a fast track to legal alien status or even citizenship if they behave and contribute for at least 5 years.

While the three issues you list are important there are many more important issues that we must consider. I have not totally ruled out Obama but I have not decided to vote for him either.

I don't know anything yet. I'm going to wait a few months to see how the field shapes up. Who drops, who adds.

Once a candidate is headed to the primaries, then I will research them a little closer.

I refuse to slander/promote candidates at this stage, except to comment when people come on calling so and so a racist, or stating that a woman will never win the White House (although I don't think Hilary has a chance).

On the war I know he is not for unfunding or a pullout. I guess that would be the best course of action, somewhere in the middle.

I haven't heard him say anything on Health care or Immigration.

I've noticed flaming racist resentment any time he's mentioned without anyone knowing who he is.

America is still a very angry bunch. Just bring up immigration and they become boarder patrol agents.

I like he isn't accepting big money and therefor not owing a bunch of buddies favors.

Right now he doesn't stand for anything that the people don't want to hear.

I know he said that if he gets elected president, he would bring the troops back in August 2008, but I don't think he did the math.

If elected President he wouldn't be in office until Jan 2009, I don't know how it would be possible for him to do it in Aug 08.

thanks for the racist remarks - once again, cons are defined by their artless way of saying basically anything.

i'm most impressed by the way obama deals with the lies that so badly vexed al gore and john kerry.

i loved obama's response to john howard's remarks that a win for democrats in 08 was a win for the terrorists.

he stated that howard can get 'all ginned up about the war' and then rhetorically asked when his nation would be sending more troops - no response came from howard.

then there was the whole 'madrassa' story that fox news made up about obama - it had been proven to be rubbish but fox went with it anyway.

obama just cut off fox's access to him and his campaign - roger ales apologized personally to obama and fox news still to this day has no access to obama or his campaign.

he has real strength and charactar - and real nads.

he will absolutely shred the likes of mccain and gingrich in a debate.

if cons want to deal with obama, they had better run giuliani - but the insaniacs in the south are not likely to go for that...

I've checked his website in the past because I wanted to know those things. Maybe you should too. It sounds like your opinion was based solely on race.
