I have a Nissan Maxima 1988. A rubber hose by the back left wheel is apparently old because it has cracked at the end and leaked fuel twice within the last year. Each time, I cut the bad part of the hose, repositioned, and re-fastened the hose. I cannot replace the hose without taking out the gas tank and everything else which I dont want to do. Can I couple a new piece of hose to the existing one using a piece of copper tubing or plastic tubing that would fit inside/outside of the hose? I don't want to have the hose fall apart on me or block the fuel flow.

Let me get this straight. You're driving around with a decaying fuel line because you "don't want to" replace it. At least drive alone so some innocent person doesn't have to spend the rest of their short but agonizing lives covered in third degree burns next to you.

Yes, there are lots of connectors to do that. Inside plastic ones with the barbs, so it doesnt come off. ANd I think outside ones too. If u still have the piece u removed last time take that to the auto store so u can get the right size connector.

Your best bet is to just take the car in to have the line changed out, It sounds to me as if the line is really old. The gas will just continue to eat through that line, and how many times are you willing to do your thing with a part that could cause you a fire? best to have it fixed, then not have to worry about it.

in case you certainly would desire to yet attempt to flare the ends of the steel area so the hose does not slip off later on, whether you employ reliable clamps the gasoline stress can psh a clamped hose off the steel end.
