At first when I turn it on, internet programs takes like a full minute to show on the screen. Then, I have to wait to open up the instant messenger program. When someone messages me, I click on the icon to open up the message but it takes up some time. Whenever I open or close a window. I have to be patient to view it. So do you think my pc has a virus? A slow computer can be caused by many things, but there are a few key areas you can easily work on yourself to speed your computer up. To start, make sure you have enough memory (RAM) installed to run Windows and all of your applications correctly. I made a step-by-step guide to help you determine how much memory you have installed, and how to upgrade it if necessary:

Once you know your RAM is up to snuff, you need to make sure there are no unwanted programs eating up your computer’s resources and memory. Spyware, Adware and Malware can all cause problems on your computer, and need to be removed. To learn the difference between the three, and how to clean them off of your computer, see my anti-spyware guide here:

Now that your computer is free of spyware, you need to make sure there are no viruses hiding in the system. Before you worry about removing viruses, you should take a moment to learn exactly what they are, and what ill effects they can have on your computer:

Most computers come with a virus program installed, but they are often times a 30-90 trial of the program. Make sure you get a full version of one og the popular programs, and keep it updated and run scans on a regular basis.
After you know your computer is clean, you should clean and defrag your hard drive(s):
http://www.fix-my-slow-computer.com/clean-your-hard-drive.html
Once that is done, you need to check and clean your computer’s registry:

The few simple steps above are pretty much exactly what large office supply chain stores, major electronics retailers and local computer shops do when they charge you $100 and up to clean and maintain your computer. Follow my advice and do it yourself for free, both your computer and wallet will be happier.

You might NOT have a virus. You can try the following: Start, Programs, run. Type 'Msconfig'. Select the 'Start Up' tag. Delete anything on the start-up list what is unnecessary.

Then download 'C Cleaner' for free. Then defrag your computer which will certainly speed up your computer if you have never defragged before.

Good luck!
