I think that anyone is smarter than the people in charge right now..I'm not sure who said 'When you are a failure at everything else you become a politician"--but I don't think they weren't far off the mark...Kudos to those kids. Why would anyone want to fight for a losing argument?

That's fantastic. And yes, 9th graders can be smarter than the people in charge. After all, predjudice, intollerance, and bigotry are LEARNED social flaws - maybe these 9th graders have managed not to learn them!
Makes me think of John Mayer's song, "Waiting on the world to change..." Someday, this younger, hopefully more tollerant generation will rule the population...

The 9th graders in honors classes have a mature outlook on life. They can think for themselves and that is something admirable.

that really is awesome! I wouldn't say that they are necessarily smarter, just more open-minded, and they obviously have parents who are as well. hatred is a learned behavior, and ignorance can be "cured" with education. granted, there are still a lot of hate-filled people in this world, who are going to raise their children to hate as well (and I believe that teaching children to hate is a form of child abuse....as you are socially retarding your child). but more and more, these right-wing, hate-mongers are becoming a smaller minority....and hopefully will grow smaller. wouldn't that be a wonderful world to live in...when I get to be an old lady sitting on the front porch legally married to my wife!

This is something which makes the Wingnuts spastic -- knowing that most kids are trending in support of Equal Rights, not against them.
The only way to get people to believe a delusion, is to brainwash them or put a gun to their kids. But eventually, a kid will pipe up and say, 'the emperor is not wearing any clothes' if you follow my meaning . . .
Like art Linkletter used to say, 'Kids say the darnest things!'

YES! That's awesome! A majority of Americans are against gay marriage, but still approve of homosexuals. The country is making progress, slowly, but surely.

Thank goodness. Times indeed are changing for the better. Now with the next generation on board, if we can just convince *this* batch of dunderheads that there's no difference. There's always Hope.

Times are changing... It's wonderful. I have a straight co-worker, who is raising several children. One of her high school friends came to visit and my coworker said "So, are you married?" and he kind of looked away and said "Um, maybe I shouldn't say in front of your kids." She said "WHy?" and he said "Because I'm gay." and my coworker's 7 year old son piped up with "Well, you really should stop being so dumb about it. My friends Beth and TC are a couple and they are both girls and they love each other, so that means they're gay and there's nothing wrong with it!" Out of the mouths of babes.

I think those kids are quite open minded but I would think that some of the credit should go to many of the parents who have probably showed them how to be open minded.

smarter, no. It simply goes to show you that if you don't teach hate, the kids won't develop hate. I think that most of the people who are against homosexuality are TAUGHT to be against it!
