If she divorces him while they are processing the papers then the guy may be subject to deportation. Was this marriage for love or was it for money so that he could get citizenship?

Well she could leave him anytime she wants, but if she does then he will lose any chance that he had at becoming a citizen.
Ask to spend the night at her house. Tell her you are too tired to drive home and ask her if you can sleep on the couch after a date, if she says no then she is most likely having an affair with you and lying about the marriage.

If she divorces him now she could wind up going to jail because it would evident that she married him only to gain him citizenship, which is exactly what she did. She will also be watched for some time after he becomes a citizen (they have to remain married for a specific period of time) or else again she can wind up in jail. He will wind up being deported. I hear it's not too much fun being in a federal prison either. Your friend should have thought about marrying this guy because now she has to put up with whatever crap he puts down for awhile in order to keep her butt out of prison.

He doesn't need to be a citizen for her to divorce him. Are you seeing this girl, and she is just giving you a bunch of excuses not to leave him for you?

She can get a divorce anytime she wants. If she married him JUST to get him legal, then shame on her.

She can leave him whenever she wants. If she does, he won't be able to get his papers and be deported. She better leave him sooner then later. Especially if the papers have not gone through yet.
