Everything is pretty much rebuilt on the bike, except the clutch. It still has the original (3) speed, automatic Clutch. Once you get it in the 1st and after the intial jerk all is good.

I had a Z50. My father was a Honda dealer from '65-'75. I seem to remember that being normal for those automatics. As others mentioned your idle speed could effect how much it jerks.

You answered your own question. Open the motor and look at the clutch. The clutch plates could be sticking together. A common problem with old bikes and bikes that have been sitting around collecting dust LOL

Have you tried adjusting the clutch. Loosen the lock nut on the clutch cover and turn the adjusting screw OUT until it stops, then turn it back in 1/4 turn and relock the nut. Also as suggested make sure you are not idling too high.

lower the idle a bit and if that doesent work put a new clutch in it. if u dont have the $ then just ride it.

perhaps the idle speed is too high, try unscrewing the tickover screw on the carburettor a 1/8 turn. ie not much.
