For a girl as long as the hymen is intact she is techincally a virgin, although there are operations now to correct a broken hymen, I think you stop being a virgin once you engage in any kind of sex

There is no point! I was confused and trying to deal with the pressure of not facing my family just feeling like something was totally wrong with me. So wanting to feel "normal", I slept with a guy, and today I kind of regret the decision I made. Im totally gay and proud to be one, I was just in a confused time in that point in my life.
Eventually things worked out for, and today Im proud of being who I am. Never look back at the regret of losing my virginity to a man.

When you engage in intercourse of any kind. Even oral.
Lots of gay men try to say they're virgins because they've only done oral. I say that they're only anal virgins, because they've been with truckloads of men already.
The same goes for lesbians, even if it's cunnilingus they would just be maybe penetration virgins.
So yeah, if people want to get technical, virgin just gets put at the end of the sexual act you've never committed.
Personally for instance, I'm a scat, fisting, golden showers and cross-dressing virgin. I'm sure there'd be more if I went into more detail.
Point is, you don't get off on a technicality, you've still had sex.

The first time they have sex. People want to discount gay sex just because it's gay. I think virginity isn't so much about penetration as it is about the emotional and spiritual change that happens that first time.

I should think it would be the physical act of copulation, (Having some kind of penetrative sex with another person). I would imagine that would be when you would be considered to be no longer a virgin.

It depends on what definition one chooses. If one chooses "has had sex" as a definition of a non-virgin, that's one answer. If one wants to stick to the narrow definition of virginity ending because of male-female intercourse, that's another answer.

For a gay dude - anal sex (giving and/or receiving) although many feel that oral sex will suffice.

I asked this myself a couple months ago. Apparently, if you're gay, any sexual contact whatsoever makes you a non-virgin, whereas with hetero sex, only complete penetration counts.
