Life was simple then. My girlfriend and I used to telephone motels out on the beach, 'looking for our mommy.' We would describe her and her male companion. Pretend to cry the whole sad scared kid thing. One guy was about to connect us to a room when we stopped him and confessed. He laughed so hard he couldn't breathe. Then he gave us the number of the motel across the street. Caller ID is good for stopping harassment but it has also taken the fun out of anonymous

I used to do that too..once we did this from my girlfriend's house and after about the 12 th time of random prank calling..the phone rang...My girlfriend answered and I got on the extension to listen...It was the phone company ( or someone pretending) saying they knew we were making crank calls and that they would "turn" us in if we didn't stop. Nowadays, calls are ID'd so easily, but back "in the day" this was not the case. It turned out her Dad was a big wheel at the local phone company and somehow got wind of our little pranks. We thought we were going to jail or something and we never did this again.

Oh God yes. Two of my favorites were to ask some one "For a prize of 10,000 what is the color of The Lone Ranger's white horse" or "do you have Prince Albert in the can....better let him out". Gosh.....the memories.....You can't even do that on a pay phone these days.
